Mystery metal frame under my rig

Hi, recently bought a 2011 Tiffin open road. She has a square tube frame work under the main frame. The welding is poor and has 3 supports welded to the frame on each side but nothing is hooked to the tubing it's just there hanging down.

Nothing I have seen before. Almost seems it was added for protection of the drive shaft, keeping something from coming up off the road and hitting it?

Didn't Tiffin have a problem with the coach portion sagging on the frame around that time on the gas units. Seems to me they went in and added extra framing to support the coach body to fix it after the unit was built and in use.

That appear to be an "add-on" and not sure if it was Tiffin or not that did it. I had a 2019, 32SA, and there was nothing like that around the driveshaft area.

The beginnings of a cat convertor theft protection cage?

Structurally - in my opinion that frame is worthless.

Thanks for the responses
I agree that it don't look structural too poor welding.
The previous owner was unable to explain what it's for.
Probably going to cut it off don't need the extra weight

will contact Tiffin first but doubt they have any idea either.

I would go ahead and put some chain link up there using many fasteners (U-bolts perhaps) - it’ll slow the cat thieves down and maybe drive them to easier pickin’s.

It doesn't look like it in the pictures, but is it near the propane tank? There's DOT regs low hanging propane tanks. There has to be structure below it. My motorhome has a single tube welded to the frame though, this structure looks more involved.

Not sure how much it weighs. But welding some sheet metal over it would seem like a very good catalytic converter theft protection mechanism. If a thief looks under and can't even see your converter he will almost certainly just move on.

What year was the frame manufactured? It appears the framework may be for the earlier compartments? Or maybe something Tiffin was experimenting with. I’d just leave them there, the weight of them is negligible.
