New Digital Thermostats Are Great!

I'm simply passing along my experience with replacing the analog thermostats with the new digital thermostats for our 2017 Allegro Red 38QRA 15,000 BTU Heat Pumps. The analog type had a wide variation of sensitivity to temp, making it difficult to adjust properly, w/o needing to constantly fidget with them. The new digital stats are very sensitive and work great. No more fidgeting with the temp settings. I can keep the coach comfortable just like at our house. And, the changeover installation isn't very difficult. The wiring diagram is clear. A positive shout out to Tiffin parts for their great service and fair price.

The Tiffin Part # is 5129318 and the manufacturers # is 9630A3361.

If replacing with digital thermostats, I'd get the EasyTouch RV™ Thermostat instead. My rig came with the digital thermostat OP just upgraded to. It's okay, but this EasyTouch one is way better. I could set a temperature and let the rig just maintain it (it will decide heater or air conditioner). With the ability to connect to WiFi I can also monitor, set, and control the thermostat remotely from my phone. A great feature if leaving a pet in the vehicle while doing a trip in the tow vehicle or dinghy.

Best,
-Mark

+1 for the EasyTouch RV, I replaced the same digital unit and it has pretty much all the functions as my Nest at home.

+2 on the Easy Touch . Micro-Air has been very responsive with any questions or feedback. Easy setup & smart phone app controls as well. My bus was factory hardwired but I purchased the connector from Micro-Air so now it's an easy swap back to the old one if it fails.

My thermostat controls both the front and rear a/c units. It also runs the cooling, the gas heat, and the heat pump heat on each unit. Does that Easytouch control all these functions as well?

Can this thermostat be read without being directly in front like the digital Coleman like my Wayfarer came with. The digital like the op has requires us to climb on the bed on our knees to read it when the bed is down. Also cycling through every function when a change is made is a PITA. The previous model must have been a real PITA to use. Would love to have Blue Tooth function.

The actual temperature is fairly small in the upper left corner of the thermostat but the set point is very large and easily readable from a distance. In addition, you can view current and set temps from their app by Bluetooth or remotely by WiFi.

Here's what the Microair Digital Easy Touch thermostat app looks like. I can control everything via Wi-Fi when away or while sitting in the coach. I can read the thermostat for the living room 20 feet away from the front seat but usually have the app running on my phone anyway. Have both ACs in app. One of my favorite upgrades. New Digital Thermostats Are Great!

One of our thermostats is bad and our replacement Micro-Air showed up last week. Unfortunately, the coach is in the shop for a windshield leak. I will probably replace the other two with Micro-Air once I get the first one sorted out and working.

EasyTouch thermostat update coming

Through this forum I believe I learned about the Micro-Air company releasing a new line of RV thermostats. I contacted Micro-Air tech support about it and what I should get. This was in mid Aug of 2021. I finally bought a EasyTouch 354 a few weeks later but not directly from the company.

From the get-go I had problems with the installation. I was about to return it on a RMA (that I had to pay shipping on because not direct purchase) when I noticed the fuse was loose in the fuse holder on the back of the thermostat. I pinched the holder ends a bit tighter and VOLLA! It worked!!!

Well, one thing led to another. I was having trouble getting the temperature range to be comfortable. Some of the problem was with the thermostat settings I didn't correct for my system and other problems were getting to understand how to use this new device. My next challenge was a A/C controller failure. Well, I figured if I were on the roof anyway fooling with the controller why not see if I could rezone my coach to have 3 zones instead of just 2. The coach was designed with zone 1 having the 2 front roof units and the rear unit was zone 2. You can imagine what the noise level was when those 2 Colman roof units kicked on. When I ordered the new controller from Colman I asked if rezoning was possible. He said yes and told me how.

The engineer for the EasyTouch is also the customer support guy by the name of Roger. I asked him if I needed to do anything to the thermostat to get it to recognize the zones. He said no, they would tell the thermostat who they were. It was then I found out I had a bad controller. My story is out of sequence. The controller issue was making me think I had a thermostat issue for a while.

Once I got things working I somehow became a beta tester for Roger. He would do a upgrade, I would test and critique it and he would consider the next step.

A few of weeks back Roger came up with a new design layout for the thermostat. It is feature rich! It should be released in a few days. I have asked for permission to talk here about the new changes but have not received a reply yet. And they are building thermostats to work with many systems.

So, if you are looking to replace your RV thermostat I do recommend the Micro-Air lineup. You get a digital thermostat that can be accessed from a phone app that connects to the thermostat with Bluetooth when in range or WiFi when your not. You can control the fan speeds available for your system, heating or cooling separately or heating and cooling over a range of set temperatures.

This is enough for now. I'll post more later but in smaller, more specific chunks.

I replaced all three of mine with the Micro-Air thermostats. Wish I did this when we bought the coach a couple of years ago.
