Not receiving local network channels on DirecTV
We got the Winegard sat antenna & the DirecTV receiver from Tiffin with our 2015 Allegro 36LA. Working with DirecTV we started receiving most of the channels, but we do not receive our local channels, which is also the major network channels. The program guide indicates the correct channels but when we select them we get something different. For example, our DirecTV channel 2 is public TV (KETS), but when we select it we get Ion TV instead. After resending the set-up signal, the DirecTV technician told us that was all they could do for us.
Anyone have ideas on how we might get our local TV channels?

Sounds like you are outside of your local channel service area, which might be 100 miles or so. Locals are spot-beamed to a small geographical area only, so when you move too far you are receiving something else. Manytimes if you switch to SD instead of HD, you can still receive locals a further distance away.

Exactly, although there could be trouble with your programming too. But if you're more than 100-150 miles from your home location you just might be out of the spot programming as was said above.

It is correct that local channels are spot beamed and can only be received for a distance of about 100-150 miles away from your home city.
You can use your over-the-air antenna for locals when traveling, or you can send in a form to Direct to receive Distant Network Service for an extra $12 a month. A link to the form is provided in THIS THREAD in the Technology Forum. To get DNS, your account must be registered to your RV (no borrowing a receiver from home). You will receive network stations from either New York or LA depending on your home zip code (NY if you live in Eastern or Central Time Zone and LA if you live in Mountain or Pacific Time.

We have used DTV for many years, owned a home in another state, take our receiver from home and simply call dtvmove and change our billing address and request a signal update. We have been very happy!

FWIW, the spot beam radius of 100/150 miles is probably good as a rule of thumb but it can be much farther. I once picked up my local Sacramento stations while set up in Vancouver Wa.

Have you ever had trouble with them limiting the number of times per year you can do this?

DirecTV Local Stations
Thanks to all for the great info. I learned more here than with the DirecTV tech. He did put in the zip code for our location & still, no network stations, local nor east coast.
Seems like another try with the tech is in order.

Yeah changing the zip code of the receiver will not help. Call dtv support and have them change your SERVICE address not your billing address. Hope this helps

Call this number 1-800-769-4635. It will bypass all of the voice commands of Directv. A live person should answer it right away. Then tell them you want to change your service address. Make sure you have the address ready. Also make sure you are within the range of the footprint of the service you want.

Another option is to give them a NY, Tri State area address and you will get the major networks ( NBC, CBS, ABC ). I use my old Toms River, NJ house address and get the networks everywhere I travel.
Many boaters use a NY Marina address.
I tried using my daughters address in Reading PA. and lost the networks, outside the area.

How often and how many times can you make the change? Dish has no DNS, so they have to do the change. I have heard Direct will only allow you to change so many times before they balk.
