on my brand new tiffin 36 gh while camping in one of our favorite spots, it was like we had run out of propane. i know the tank was full from the dealer but now shows one half tank. idid smell propane for short time and soaped all the connections i chould get to and found no leaking, i broke the fitting at the regulator and found a lot of light oil in the regulator. i believe that no oil should be in this regulator, true or not?

True there should be no oil in the system, but it is possible that the oil is a contaminant from the building of the tank. Did draining the oil fix your problems ?

Propane is really LPG (liquid petroleum gas). It is a byproduct of the oil refining process. There are sometimes small amounts of oil that remain in the LPG, but it is unusual to see a noticeable amount on the first tankful.

The propane you smelled may be because your regulator was venting excess pressure because it was clogged.

You may need to drain the oil from the regulator periodically until that tank of propane is gone. There also should be a drain plug on the bottom of the tank, but don't remove it unless the tank is completely empty. At Red Bay, they have a big burner that is on a high tripod that they use to burn off propane to empty the tank.

If this is a new motor home I think that should be the dealer finding out why their is oil in the regulator. If there is a problem they should fix it and refill the tank.

I would call a local propane supplier and ask them. It might be faster and easier to get them to fix things. If it looks like a repair is involved, call Tiffin and get authorization for the repair so you won't have to pay.

Thanks for the input, I just received a new regulator from Tiffin and blew most of the oil from the system, hard to tell if it is all gone but all burners and etc are working fine. Will replace the regulator this weekend
