Onan Genset question
I have 126 hours on my generator and it started blinking 3 blinks then pause, the label on generator says service required, I just had the oil changed last year and only 12 hours since and was going to change again as soon as weather got better. Any clues?

Why do folks think an oil change is relevant to any failure or that the oil change will prevent all failures? Start with is the battery good? Did you test with a meter? What is the battery voltage while holding the switch to start the generator.

Three blinks indicates a service fault. You’ll need to check your Onan manual to get instructions on retrieving the actual fault.

I don’t think changing the oil is a answer to all questions, my statement was I just had the oil changed and If it was a second service code(if they Have them) then no problem with oils and Tiffin should have reset any timely codes if they exist.(MOD EDIT) I did all that checked it all, checked everything, thats why I posted because I found nothing wrong indicated.

A group of us experienced the same with our 10Ks - checked for the simple stuff like sufficient voltage, ground, clean fuel / air filter with no luck. Then we changed out the 3 OEM start / stop / run relays with much better quality ones (Bosch bought from Amazon by the dozen) and problem-solved. Anecdotally we all believe the gens also start and run smoother.

Thanks for the tips. Can you post a link to the relays on Amazon ?

Sorry if I missed it stated but on both Onans I had you needed to push the shutoff or prime button to get past the first code (3 blinks) and to the second which should give some better indication of the issue.

Generator model size and age might help, but on most modern Onan Generators, 3 blinks indicates there is another service or fault code.
To find the fault code, briefly press the stop button 1 time and the blinking pattern will change to a series of 2 blinking sets. For example: Light blinking 3 times. Press stop button, blink changes to blink-blink pause blink-blink-blink = 23 or Service Fault 23 which is "Low Oil Pressure Cutoff Switch Fault".
That is just an example and you need to look up the faults codes for your specific generator.
