I am thinking with this smaller coach the F-53 would potentially have more power in such pulls than say the 36 LA which obviously has greater weight.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or experiences.
I have 36LA and climbed Monument Pass towing a 4800 lb GMC Canyon. We had no problem.

One of the few complaints I have with the 36LA is the screaming V-10 at 25 mph going up inclines. Not enjoyable in the least.

Been there, done that in our 29/9 32SA towing a 2 Dr JKS. Been over the continental divide many times and you are just going to chug up the pass at 25 - 30 mph with a screaming engine that you can’t hear yourself think over, much less have a conversation. Downhill, in tow haul, same same. Only vehicle I have ever had without a redline on the tach. And be sure to use “tow/haul” mode going Dow passes, otherwise brakes get eaten. After our last trip through Co, Mt, and Wy- we now own a DP.

I didn't think you could tow any of the electric hybrids in a 4 down configuration. All that battery weight might be what makes that thing so heavy.

Russ,
Being in B.V. I pull an 8K# enclosed car hauler over Monarch Pass (11+K ft) with this. Past Monarch lodge we're in 1st gear @ 2800 RPM and chugging along @ 26 MPH. WE watch the chipmunks outrunning us, but she does it.
I just turn on the 2 pancake fans at the base and settle back for the run.
That 8.1 Chevy is bulletproof, especially thanks to the Ultra RV ECM / TCM mod's.

On a Pace Arrow, you MUST beef up the hitch. The OEM setup is a disgrace to any engineer with a modicum of common sense. I did mine like this.

Eisenhower pass climb

We made a 6000 mile trip going all over out west. Several steep climbs and descents. We topped the (+/- 11,000’) Eisenhower pass at under 30mph. We were towing my 2019 Ford Ranger (which pulls awesome BTW). Loud, nervous climb, but now I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again if we wanted to. Our 36La is heavy, but the v10 is a capable beast. Keeping it on the mt when going downhill was a “stay focused” job. Use tow haul mode, but start your descent in lower gears. Keep your speed down and don’t try to catch up.

I would highly recommend sound/thermal insulation. On my previous 36LA I insulated the engine doghouse, underside of floor from the firewall back to the entrance door (covers the transmission), and the firewall using multiple layers of Stinger and Dynamat. I also wrapped the defrost ducts with the Dynamat.

It was a project but it made a huge difference. Most noticeable at cruising speed, wife and I could have a normal conversation and I could here the radio much better. The engine still screamed going up and down grades but it was much more tolerable.

Similar to garykk, we had a 32’ Winnebago class A and a four door wrangler. The V10 always made it up the passes albeit a little slowly. You also have the option of disconnecting if there is a second driver.

Make sure your coach has the available GVWR and GCWR before doing anything.

I again want to thank all those who have shared their expertise and their experiences. I love how helpful this forum is for such matters. It sure beats taking with salespersons!

Regards and best wishes to all, and safe travels.
