Power Seat Low Voltage and not Working

We have a 2024 Phaeton 40IH. We just arrived at our campground for the night and our driver seat power went out and the seat won't move. I used a multimeter to test the power coming from the floor to the seat and it only shows 6 volts. I tested the passenger seat for comparison and it showed 12 volts. I also have an overcurrent fault for the drivers seat on my Spyder panel.

I'm no electrician so I don't really know what I'm seeing. I thought possibly the connector from the floor wire to the seat had just come loose but it was connected tightly. I pulled it apart anyway and reconnected it but it still doesn't work. While I had it apart I tested the power and still only saw 6 volts.

Can anyone tell me why I'm only seeing 6 volts? I looked at the 12 volt breakers and none seem to have tripped and also none were labeled "seat power". Maybe there is a separate breaker for the seats somewhere?

Everything else in the coach seems to be working (at least if something else is not working I haven't found it yet.)

A related note: The same thing happened to the passenger seat last week when we were in Red Bay for warranty work and they fixed it for me. They removed the molex connector and used butt connectors to connect the wires.
I could do that to the drivers seat too but if I'm only seeing 6 volts I'm not sure that will fix things.

Thanks for any help!

Steve

Well, I fixed it. But I did two things at the same time so I'm not sure what the real fix was (that'll teach me). I turned off the 12 volt with the battery disconnect switch (the salesman switch did not kill power to the seats but the battery disconnect did). And while the power was off I replaced the molex connector with butt connectors. When I turned power back on the seat worked and showed 12 volts. Maybe turning the 12 volt off and on fixed it? Or maybe swapping the connector? Who knows but I'm happy it is working.

On my 2022 40IP, the fuses for the seats are in a fuse box above the big circuit breaker box in the electronics bay - the first bay on the driver's side.

If you were seeing the 6v in the Molex connector chances are it was a faulty crimp on the connection causing a low voltage reading.

Thanks for the replies.

I looked in the fuse box in the electronics bay for a fuse labeled "seats" or similar and didn't see one. Maybe tomorrow morning I'll look more closely at what fuses are there. Do you know how the fuse for the seats might be labeled? If I really want to know I suppose I could start pulling fuses until I find the one that powers the seats.

I agree it was probably a bad crimp and replacing the connector fixed it.

On our 2017 IH, the circuit breakers for the seats are #55 and #60 on the Spyder panel in the DS front compartment. Your wiring should be similar.

I feel like I should have more circuit breakers than I see. I have a circuit breaker panel in the storage bay with the battery disconnect switch (see pic). And I have fuses in the electronics bay (see pic). I also have some chassis fuses in the bay with the chassis battery.

Where do you see #55 and #60 circuit breakers?

Does the 2024 not have a Spyder G6 panel in the driver's side front compartment similar to the one below with all of the circuit breaker buttons? If not, then there have been major electrical changes I'm not familiar with.

No, I don't appear to have a panel like that. At least not one that I've seen (and I've looked around everywhere I can think to look). I attached a pic of what my driver's side front compartment looks like.

I'll call Tiffin and ask where I can find the breakers for the seats.

That's a major change in the Spyder panel. Have you opened that enclosure to see if there are circuit breakers inside?

Here are the pictures of my 2022 40IP.

The seats are "maxi" sized mini fuses in the center fuse block above the circuit breaker box.

I called Tiffin this morning to ask where the breakers/fuses for the power seats are located. They told me things changed for 2024 and there are no fuses or breakers for the seats (I didn't ask about other systems but it seems like there may not be breakers or fuses for a lot of other things too). Instead he said there is a "card" in that big silver box with the plastic door in the front driver side bay where the power wires will plug into. He said if I'm having issues to test for power on that "card".

I opened up that box, which looks the same as the photo @bentjm posted expect there are no breakers on the front, and the box is full of wires, many of which plug in to the back of where the breakers would be. I did not see breakers or fuses in that box.

Seems odd that there are not dedicated breakers or fuses for the seats but I'm a little out of my depth here so maybe it's not that big of a deal.

Mine are buried under a cabinet in the very back right hand corner.

You have circuit breakers inside the coach? The 45OPP floorplan is different than the 40IH. I do have what I believe is a spyder system board and a bunch of wires in a cabinet in the rear closet on the drivers side, where the GFI buttons for the washer/dryer and heated floors are located, but I don't see any circuit breakers there. I think things are probably different between the Bus and Phaeton and the 2023 and 2024 model years.
