Powerglide Rear Shock replacement
Can someone please advise the best way to replace rear shocks on the Powerglide Chassis?
There is not enough room above the drive tires to get in and remove the top of the shock tower.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Haven't had to do this job yet on a coach, but I would think there are three options:
- lay on ground and reach up from below
- Use the rear levelers to lift the rear up (not enough that the tires come off the ground. Then use blocks/jackstands as safety. Reach in from the side over the top of the tires.
- Jack it up, put another jack under the axle for when the shock is taken off, take the rear wheels off, and easily reach the shock top.

Thank you. I have tried option 1 not possible. I believe option 2 is doable. Don't have the tools to try option 3. As soon as it warms up here I will try using the jacks.
Thank you for responding.

Just helped do this for a friend of mine. He had a tire guy come out to remove the wheels and remove the shock bolts as no amount of force could we get them off. We used the jacks to lift the coach and used the tire guys 20k jack under the rear axle to get the tires off. We then replaced the shocks and one air bag and he came back later in the day to put the tires back on. No t to hard to do.

Great info. I'll consider this method if I can't budge the top bolts.
Before tires were removed were you able to use air gun / ratchet ?
What year of coach were you working on please?

Didn't try removal before we took off tires. Have done this on other MH's and really can't get to the bolts very easy especially with a air gun. We tied removal wit our 450 lb air gun and the bolts wouldn't move. Tire guy and had a 800lb air gun that worked. His big tire gun was no use because of the size. The shock bolts are 11/8 and had some corrosion on them. Coach was a 2011 Allegro Bus.

Wow! Same year as our coach! Hope our bolts aren't that tight.
Thank you.

Just an update. We had to remove tires to get the rear shocks off. Tiffin claims they were set at 150 ft lbs but mine were much tighter.
Tire dealer had a HD tire gun that got the job done!
Thanks for the info.
