Precision Temp on demand water heater issue

Good morning,

Lately our on demand hot water system is not working consistently. We have had our 2011 Phaeton for 5 years with no problems. It seems when I was outside near the unit and first mate turned on hot water I would hear a noise like a turbine come on. Now I dont seem to hear that noise.

I believe this is the Precision Temp 550.

Any ideas out there on what maybe happening.
We know to leave hot water on when showering so we dont get a cold water 'plug'

Thanks
Craig

Do you still have plenty of hot water when you shower or do the dishes?

If yes, then it's most likely just atmospheric conditions, humidity, temp, that sort of thing.

When you're outside, do you see clouds of black smoke curling up from the water heater vent? If yes, then head to a shop. If not, don't think you have a problem.

Not sure what you mean by not working consistently, could you explain? Do you have plenty of propane?

thanks for the reply.
What I meant was during a shower, the hot water ceased, nothing but cold.
Plenty of propane. I checked the compartment for debris, and cleaned the contacts.
This has happened on several occasions. For the record, it is the model 500.

Yours is a model 500, but I would guess it's similar to the 550 model. What that shows is that there are several thermistors that sense temps and there's also LEDs that are telltales that can be checked for trouble indications.

What I'd do first off is find a copy of the service manual for that model, then read up on the indicator LED. Get it to fault again and then check the LED(s). Which means to open the case and while in there check the electrical connections for all the thermistors making sure they are all tight. A loose connector can throw things out of wack in the circuitry.

Anyway, somewhere to start.

You can also just google 'Mobile RV service near me' and call and ask if they have experience with your device. Always check any service company here RVServiceReviews online first. Might have to read between the lines if there aren't many reviews though.
