Purchasing a RV on Consignment

I need some schooling on purchasing an RV on consignment. I did a google search and most of the information is on selling, very few on purchasing. When purchasing on consignment is it the same as a regular vehicle purchase? All my vehicle purchases have been done by checking NADA & KBB to find the value of the vehicle, make an offer, if accepted, then pay in cash or finance. Also does trading in an RV toward a newer RV work the same on consignment? Any help would be appreciated.

I bought my rig consigned thru' a really crappy rv dealer. No difference at all for the buyer, except my offer was about 50% of asking, so they had to confer with the consignee. Three days later, my offer was accepted, without counter.

Not a bad way to buy, but remember, the dealer is just acting as a facilitator between you and the seller. Find the NADA low retail price and offer about 5 percent below that. (That's all I have been able to sell for when I consigned 3 of mine). Then be sure to have it checked out mechanically and make the seller cover that cost. The dealer will make about 7.5 up to maybe 12 percent off the deal...that's his incentive.

Actually, the only way to do it right is to get a real appraisal taking into account what like units are selling for at auctions, by PP, and through dealers.

NADA and KBB are DEALER tools and NOT set up for the consumer but candidly it's about all that is out there.

Try these guys....I used them when selling my 5th wheel and I promise you I will not buy another without spending the $30 again

Paul, I would agree with you. Those NADA and other book values are mathematically derived, but real-world. But, still a good starting point. Have you noticed the values differ if you access NADA through RVT.com vs going directly to their site? Hmmmmm.....

No but I do know for a fact that the NADA and KBB programs available only to licensed dealers have very different numbers than the ones that the general public can access....which is why I believe those guys are a huge value add

True. It has a higher security classification than most military secrets. That's just a form of corruption IMO.
I wonder how much the RV and auto industry pays the DC lobbyists to keep it that way.
