Purchasing MH from a Local Dealer - Advantages?

I am wondering if there are any not so obvious benefits from purchasing a new Tiffin Motor Home from a local dealer? Do most major metro areas have "authorized" repair or warranty service departments?

Often, the dealer's service department will give some schedule priority to coaches purchased from the dealership.

Take care,
Stu

There are advantages in that local dealers will sometimes only work on motor homes they sell. Do some research on your local dealer to see how they handle service and decide for yourself.

This is a true statement, some dealers will only work on your coach if you bought it there. Motor homes always have some kind of problems. Unless you find a dealer that works on your coach locally, Red Bay is usually a hall to get it fixed.

I myself find it very convenient to have a local dealer. Close enough to do even small warranty work, oil changes, and pick up Brand specific filters, wiper blades and more.

My dealer matched the price form two of the Big Three so I bought locally.

Many dealer service shops are, well, lacking... I'd throughly research a specific dealer through user feedback before counting on them.

There are many service only Tiffin authorized shops. Suggest to use them as they typically provide much better service.

Buying a coach from one of the big 3 dealers bear Tiffin factory is commonly done. Typically best pricing and initial delivery service. Near Red Bay so camp in the area fir a couple weeks learning and making a punch list of wants/needs - then go to the factory service. Now, with the coach sorted out bring it home.

Imho.

We bought ours from a large dealer in Florida due to in large part their service department touted as being "a cut above with specially trained techs for DP's" and their fancy campground while you wait. The cut above turned out to be the worst we have encountered in many years of RVing and after complaining to Tiffin they suggested taking it to any independent company we were happy with for repairs and they reimbursed us the amount paid. Red Bay was the best but several repairs made locally by a mobile service were paid by Tiffin. In my opinion get the best purchase deal you can find and either go to Red Bay or locally for warranty that will be paid by Tiffin. Until local dealers service departments get sufficient, properly trained, competent technicians I see no reason to pay more than you have to for the privilege of taking it to their service department..

Tiffin has tons of authorized independent repair shops all over the country. Thankfully my coach hasn’t needed any warranty work but the guy that does my annual service says Tiffin is the best at approving warranty items.

Jim - I checked your profile and see you are in Sun City West, AZ. Being in the phoenix area you have excellent (and recommended) independent repair facilities other than the local dealer. Warranty service can be had at Silverleaf Coach in Chandler and East Valley RV Specialists in Apache Junction are two of them. The local dealer doesn’t get great reviews for quality of repairs. You’ll save thousands of dollars by purchasing from the big 3.

I’m from Detroit. Ordered ours from Florida because they have a lemon law. They also had a better price. Have not taken delivery yet. Good luck.

It seems completely unreasonable to expect to have to return to the selling dealer for warranty or repair work. What if you're a full timer who buys in Florida, then has problems when you're in Washington state? People can't seriously be implying the coach would need to return to Florida for service.
Also local dealers may have very limited inventory making impossible to buy a new coach off their lot. So someone from California may have to buy from a dealer in Georgia to get what they want. Again, it's unreasonable to expect they would need to drive to Georgia for service.
If any Tiffin dealers are refusing to do work unless they sell the coach, Tiffin should eliminate them as a dealer.

speaking of service

i was on a trip and pulled into ingram's one time.. needed something from the store... i asked service manager if they had time to check my xxx, as it wasn't working...
got my part and walked up to look at sales dept.
when i got back service manager told me coach was fixed. i asked about bill for repair.
"no charge" i expected a 30 minute fee? maybe 50 to 100?
nope...
1. no problem -- that i had not bought coach there. they stopped what tech was doing and fixed my problem
2. no fee!! no charge... i had never bought a coach from them.
3. yes. that was the kind of dealership i like! and bought my next coach from them.
