Raised Floor over Engine?

Ok, I have a stupid question... our 2018 37PA has a raised floor in the aft section of the bedroom, in front of the closets. I get it... its removable access to the top of the engine.

My question is the 37BA is basically the same Floorplan as our PA, but it has the bathroom in the rear. Their floor is obviously flat in the rear, thus no engine access.

We find navigating that step down in the dark when you're half asleep for a potty run is actually kind of dangerous.

Any thoughts on revising or removing that step?

Thanks!

Kip

You might build up the bedroom floor to match the bathroom floor if it didn't interfere with the slides. Probably, the entire floor in the 37BA is higher and even with the bathroom floor.
I think you'll find the 37BA also has an engine access.
Engine components dictate how high the floor must be over the engine.

Tiffin did raise the whole MH floor in later years. I thought they had done so by your year. Our 2014 has that step. You can't raise the bedroom floor due to the slides.

I understand your concern, but I just make sure I'm leaning on the DS cabinet before I look for the step. Or change bed sides, since the left hand side doesn't have that issue.

Until very recently all Freightliner chassis had a step up over the motor and The Powerglide chassis were flat. Freightliner now has a flat floor chassis, I’m not sure if it replaced the old step up chassis or is just another option in addition to.

The 37AP is on the Powerglide chassis, but in 2014 it still had the step up for the engine.

Short of selling it and getting a different coach, there isn't a whole lot you can do to flatten it. You can add some glowy things or a small light somewhere so that you remember where it is. That's about it.

We have the step in the Breeze. Wife is shorter, so of limited issue, except for the middle of the night hazzard. She always holds on to the cabinets while she finds her way down the step. As you age, developing coping skills that reduce your risk of falling is key to extending your walking years.

You can likely add a shorter/longer step as opposed to a level floor. That's the Winchester house step system. However, I believe you would have to move the extra platform to pull in the slide. Don't think a ramp would be a good idea.

In any case, you have found one of the features/flaws that make one florplan acceptable for some and a no-go for others. Compromises are part of the game and the more you can accommodate, the more $$$$ you can save.

Good Luck with your coach.

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. We saw so many Floorplan I guess I lost track of the step up into the rear bath.

My wife does hang on to the cabinets. Its not that big of a deal. I was just thinking how I could make it easier for her.

Thanks again!

Freightliner does make a chassis that does not have the rear step in the back just like the powerglide but you have to go with a coach that at least 40ft in length. I believe that you will get the step on anything shorter due to how the slides are made and function. Without the extra coach length, Tiffin would need to make shorter slides. I did notice that our 2020 Red has a less of a step up then our friend 2016 Breeze. So I guess your choice is to get the step up for the engine bay or go with a longer chassis.
