Roads west of Red Bay - I-22 or Hwy 72 ?
We are near Memphis now, heading to Red Bay tomorrow. Should I travel on I-22 or Hwy 72 ? Trying to avoid rough roads, congestion and other hazards, scenery is secondary. If you only know of one of these choices your vote still matters! Thank you.

Don't know where you are around Memphis, but we followed GPS instructions to get to I22. The result was a bumper to bumper stop light to stop light city transit. Study the available connections to get to I22. Look at I40 ... it swings to the North around Memphis. Now, notice 269 ..... it gets you from I40 to I22 ..... a bit circuitous, but it works well. You may find a better route .... Note I55 should get you to I22. It did not work for us. Maybe we missed a turn.
Red Bay -- I think that we took 23 off I22 to Red Bay. However, I really do not remember the connector. It did lead us directly into town.
Good Luck.

I realize this is too late to help you, but might someone else. I've been that route a few times and now that 269 is open, that's the best way. Take I55 south to 269, then east to I22. That will bypass all of that stop and go traffic on 78 in town.

Is 269 the highway extenion that has been under construction a year or two now? We were last up there about 15 months ago and thought that highway extension was going to be awesome once completed.

Your post was a couple of days ago. If you're coming in from Arkansas, take I-40 and I-240 East around the north end of Memphis and follow it to the first exit past Poplar Ave--Bill Morris Parkway. Follow Bill Morris Pkwy. out to Hwy 72 East Exit at Collierville.
Go Hwy 72 to Iuka, Mississippi where you turn south to Golden, Mississippi. Turn east and Red Bay is just a couple of miles (across the Alabama state line.)
