Roof Maintenance

GM ALL:
The original owner's manual did not come with our '03 Allegro when we bought it used a few months ago so I downloaded one from the internet. Unfortunately it is vague identifying whether our roof is fiberglass or rubber. Is there a tell-tale sign for one or the other? Depending on which it is, I know to you need to check the seals , edges. What else should we look for? Is there something that needs to be done on roof to prevent the streaks we get often going down the windshield while it sits? In terms of sealant/caulk, is there a special one just for RV's or can we use any exterior waterproof caulking? I read somewhere people use 303. I have some for our boat, but when do you use that? And the dreaded question....walking on the roof. I can't go up there, I fear ladders any taller than 6 foot! My fiancee weighs about 198. Can he safely walk/crawl up there?
Thank you in advance and happy Monday.

I can answer part of your question. Clean the roof really good to get it as clean as possible. I use a long handle brush, use soap and water, scrub and hose down. Once dry then take something like a Swiffer stick with a microfiber towel on it, spray the 303 and use the Swiffer stick like a mop to apply a coat of the 303. That is what I do 3-4 times a year. I am a little bit heavier than your financee and I get up on my roof (albeit a newer RV).

Good Luck!!

You can find out if it's fiberglass by going up a ladder and reaching over the edge rails and tapping with your knuckles. I would clean real well then look for areas that need sealing. After that you can use 303, although make sure it's okay for a rubber roof as I have always had fiberglass. I use the same method, long handle with microfiber and I don't bother polishing it out, I just coat the roof and leave it.

I also have an 03 Allegro with no info on it. was interested in where you found a manual on line. i was not able to find one. Tiffen library only goes back to 2006.
