RV Compartment Door Latch
I have a 2007 Tiffin Phaeton, I have been having an issue with one of my Bay doors! it wasn't opening correctly, it took 2 people to open it with a lot of force, I got home yesterday and had some time to look into it and found that the latching mechanism was just stuck and needed lots of lube, so I lubed it and got the latch to move back and forth but also discovered that the latch is damaged, when you push on the door, it suppose to latch on easily and a second push should secure it, my latch isn't doing that, it just moves without latching! Has anyone ever had this issue and had to replace that latch? I think I found the correct replacement latch, but im not too sure on how it would get installed!

I spoke to some of our Bay Supervisors here at the service center. They asked if you would be willing to post a few pictures, they may be able to give you some pointers on how to install the latch. I believe those doors are a little different than what we are currently using.

I'd try cleaning it up before I replaced it. Get a can of WD40, start spraying it, working it and wiping it. That's pretty gunked up.

As dirty as that is, I would use brake cleaner on it first. Then lube it.

Latch Moves Now
Okay so I was able to free up the dirt and the latching mechanism moves freely, the problem is on that lock it suppose to ratchet when it touches the striker and secure itself onto the striker, its not locking itself onto the striker, it just moves up and down so when the door is closed now I dont even have to pull the handle, I just lift up on the door from the bottom and it opens, so that lock is no good and needs to be replaced! It looks like I have to remove some rivets and peel back the metal plate to get that lock out and those screws arent budging, its hard to get a screwdriver onto the screws because of the lip on the Botton of the door!

I'd make sure it was really clean and free, the pivot is pretty far inside and it might not be cleaned up enough to move into latch position. If the door moves up and down and you've been prying it open for awhile the hinge could be loosened up or twisted from that or the door itself could have been distorted so it doesn't fully engage to trip the latch. You need to look at that.

Hey Shawn, I just saw this post Thank You! After I posted this thread about the lock, then sent the initial Picture of the lock, I waited a few days and did see any post, I went back to the RV with some tools and got the lock out, it wasn't pretty but I got it out! See the Picture! Thank you for asking the guys about it and I know you were willing to find someone that could have helped with getting the lock out but my patience got the best of me. Thanks Again! https://www.irv2.com/forums/attachme...1&d=1729194903
