Schwintek track looks like gear is toast

My PS rear slide on our 2014 Allegro Bus 37AP was making some popping sounds when retracting or extending. I thought it was just the seals, but obviously it is more serious. That silver material seems to be from the gear. I can scrape off some of it. (This is the PS front, bottom track. )

So, what do I need to do? I have a doc on replacing the motor, but it seems fine. Is there a gear that can be replaced? Is it pretty much the same process? Any insights would be appreciated. Click image for larger version

In your case it looks like the pinion gear block has failed to keep the pinion gear properly engaged into the rack gear. Most likely a complete replacement of the drive system for that end of the slide will be needed. There's a possibility that rollers under the slide have failed which would result in the weight of the slide being put on the Swintec system, and it isn't designed to handle the weight of the slide.

I did check the floor rollers & the V roller this morning. All look in good shape. Could the block come loose and cause the gear to get out of alignment?

I see there are 2 gears that might fit (238893, 292435). Any way to tell which one is the right one? Luckily, there is only one block & one V roller. Click image for larger version

Are there 4 pair of floor rollers? I just thought about that. I looked at the inner ones, but didn't check to see if there are 2 more pair on the outer edge of the slide.

There should be two rollers on the inside edge of the slide and two attached to the floor near the outside wall. Here's a diagram of the upper and lower bearing blocks. It sounds like you may have a worn shoe or bearing block that's allowing the gear to not make full contact with the rack. If you need the full Schwintek guide let me know and I can email it to you. It's too large to post here.

You should have 2 blocks and 2 v rollers one a bottom track and one at top track. Also your slide may have shifted forward or towards the rear.

My guess would be a shoe, if one breaks and they break easily, it can cause problems as Lt. Dan said.

Thanks all. I'll look some more tonight. We're in the Missouri Ozarks, so only have access to internet if I'm sitting at the one local bar. (And I can't t drink that many beers.)

Our next stop is in an area that I think we'll have better cell coverage. I'm hoping a little pushing will help the slide goes in tomorrow morning.

I checked all the nylon/plastic rollers (2 on the outside edge attached to the floor, and 2 pair on the inside edge attached to the bed). All looked good. The slide had shifted back some. The front gap was 5/8" and the back was 3/8". I was able to push it forward 1/8" to even it out. When we brought it in this morning, I pushed on the outside to help it. It did pop a little, which I now suspect is the gear jumping the track. Must have only been once since that corner is out just a little.

What keeps the slide from shifting like that? The blocks where the gear is located?

I'm thinking I should replace the bottom blocks, gears, & V rollers on both the front & back, since I have to open up that area on both sides. Agreed?

Thanks for all your help.

Lippert tech support recommended a full rebuild, everything but the motors. Very good customer support. Not sure if I'm going to tackle that big of a job.

I do need to get with Tiffin first to track down exactly what Schwintek system is installed in my Bus.

One thing about just replacing parts is whether the slides were installed properly to begin with. On my coach the techs had to shim out the tracks that are attached to the slide sides in order to get the correct spacing. I believe this is to ensure proper meshing of the gear and the track.

Lippert tech support sent me a very good document that laid out the measurements & tolerances - 2 3/8" - 2 5/8". Ideal is 2 1/2".Attachment 371228

Lt Dan; Would you email that guide to me too? I have a 2017 Allegro Bus and am having alignment issues with the bedroom slide, The leading edge does not want to come in all the way. I have talked to Tiffin and they had me run it in and out a few times and try to "reset" the limits. It helped but I still have a half inch gap on the LE and tight on the trailing edge.
