from lack of responses I guess security is not much of an issue in the desert

I havn't heard if it being a major issue.
There was some theft several years ago, but the culprets arrested. They were stealing portable generators and lawn furniture.
We have boondocked there for many years and never had a problem. I always have the Judge with me though.

I've been going to Q for 5 years and don't feel security is an issue. I would feel less secure in a forest service campground.
Go forth and enjoy.

I have heard of issues with security, For example a specific brand of generator, even if cable locked to something solid, had a tendency to grow legs and walk off... Because the theives know they are in demand.

However.. When it comes to security you have two choices.. Worry about it and pay your pharmacist for ulcer medications, or let your insurance company worry about it and they can pay THEIR pharmacist for ulcer meds.. i choose the latter.

This is not to say I do not address concerns (For example.. IF I ever buy a small quiet portable generator (Which I plan to do some day) it won't be RED)

But if you wish to improve your security join a group.. When I go to QZ I'm in a group of over 100 other RVers, over 50 Rigs, we all park and party together and as a result if a "Stranger" comes into the "Camp"... Well.... He's watched.

That's why no responses to the OP's question. I wouldn't boondock in Quartzite without.... ahem... 'security', but speaking of it here is verboten.

I would hate for the OP to come away thinking security is unnecessary in the desert just because the answer is a forbidden topic. Feel free to PM me for specific suggestions.

So I guess the original question should be banned for the same reason. A reasonable person when asked about security wouldn't want to hear about a "P" shooter.
