Self insure or extended warranty
I have a Phaeton IH being built and delivery in 45 days. I am not a mechanic by no means. Perhaps you may be able to share your experience of having or not having experience of repairs needed after 1st year where manufacturer warranty expires, and if you felt having an extended warranty on specifically a Tiffin was advisable. These extended warranties are not cheap and wondering on this manufacturer, whether it's better to get it or self insure. Thanks

Keep in mind that you are covered bumper to bumper for the first year, then the chassis covered for three years and the drive train for five. I was quoted 8,000 for four years of coverage and can do a lot of house repairs for that. It's always a crap shoot on coverage after the initial warranty, but I found it better to stash the cost of the warranty, then add some to it each year and it's always more than covered any problems. Granted there are big ticket items such as engine failure after the five year warranty, but those are very rare.

Most people have bad experiences with extended warranties. they are expensive and They will find some loophole to Not cover the problem.. I would recommend you not buy an extended warranty due to the excellent Tiffin warranty. The service center is just a phone call away with solutions to your problems or questions. You can use this site for excellent help and you can "You Tube" just about anything for a video on how to fix things.

Although I benefited from being able to transfer an extended warrant for $100, I'm not inclined to pay big bucks for an extended warranty. You are better off, if you have the discipline to do so, to put that money in designated savings account to cover the OH CRAP moments when they occur. But, for folks that don't have lot of self discipline when it comes to savings accounts, than paying for a warranty as part of the payment plan on a motorhome may be a good move. I had to have an AC unit replaced and didn't have a problem with the extended warranty company.

Your new Tiffin comes with a 1 yr bumper to bumper warranty and additional 3/5 yrs on major parts such as power train and tranny. Many of the components, refer, microwave, water pump etc have longer manufacture warranties, mostly 2yrs. Be that as it may I still prefer to purchase an extended warranty. I don’t keep a huge sum in a savings account. I would rather invest it and make a profit.
