shower drain/p trap odor

Have a 2013 Allegro Open Road. Has 1 1/2 bathrooms. The shower in the rear has a bad odor all of a sudden. Especially when driving. Is there a way to get to the P Trap? Can it be cleaned out? What is the best product to use in the Gray Water system? Thanks for any advice.....

I have used regular tank treatment pods or liquids in the gray tank. Fill it up about a quarter, add the chemical and drive to your next spot then fill and drain. However driving causes the P-trap's to empty. To combat this I just fill a sandwich bag half full of water and put it over the drain in the shower until we arrive at our destination. Then I just pull the bag dump the water in the shower to fill the P-trap. No problem. I also close off all the sinks by putting the stopper down so no gas to come up through there.

You probably don't have a p-trap but a waterless drain valve. These normally seal fine but yours may have been damaged. You can get a replacement from Tiffin.

A more common source of sewer odors in the bathroom is the Air Admittance Valve(s) - AAVs associated with all the sinks in the rig. These take the place of vent stacks you have in your home plumbing system. These prevent a vacuum from forming when you allow your sink to drain.

Hepvo Waterless Trap

AAV (used to prevent 'P' traps from getting sucked dry when draining grey waste tanks

My solution was to buy liquid black water tank treatment and follow the instructions on the bottle on how much to use for treating grey water tanks. I think it was 2 ounces of treatment and a gallon of water for a empty tank. No more odor. It is the stuff that goes into the tank from washing dishes, hands, body oils, etc. that cause the stink.

The sink drains are easy to get to and fix a problem, but how do you get to the shower drain to check it out? Don't see any access.
Thanks for your advice.

Your access is from the shower base or from the basement ceiling. Your problem is most likely not with the drain valve but the AAVs in the bathroom. Clean your gray tank, replace your AAV valve(s) and make sure the bathroom vent is closed when traveling. If you still have odors, then it is time to look further.

Also consider treating the drain with something like Drano Gel ... its amazing what accumulates...
