Slide Issue

Steven Ravitz > Tiffin Motorhome Owners Group
21h -
I am in the process of purchasing a 2019 37PA and had it inspected by
a certified rv inspector. During his inspection he found this damage on
the left front slide. This is on the rear portion of the slide. The current
owner of the motorhome was not aware of the damage, but says the
slide works perfectly fine. But obviously there is something going on
here. Has anyone had any experience with this or has seen it before?

Is that bolt one of the ones that holds the slide out to the slide out frame? It looks like it hit something at one point and caused the slide out fiberglass to break. Probably has no backing on the slide out backside.
The slide out would have to be removed to repair it at this point.

That bolt and plate looks like it could be for seat belts inside maybe. Either way, it has had some pressure on it being at an angle. Definitely something going on. Only way to tell is have someone run the slide while looking at it.

That looks like the plate that attaches the hydraulic ram to the floor of the slide. It could possibly be repaired by going on the inside and adding support bracing and straightening the bolts. Either way that's going to be a fairly major repair and as Gary said it may involve pulling the slide out and reflooring that part. That plate and the slide ram hold the weight of that end of the slide when it's extended and pulled in. It's possible the PO kept extend pressure on the hydraulics too long causing it to break out because it looks like it's pushed too far outward due to the way the bolt is leaning.

Personally, I would walk away from the coach and keep looking.

I know you are asking about the damage and cause. It's hard for me to get a perspective from the pics. Other more experienced people above have more knowledge for sure. But, the current owner may have an extended warranty purchased? Perhaps if everything else is on point including the price, you can negotiate that they use their warranty to have it repaired, to your satisfaction, and still buy it. But I would not buy it without the repairs being done for sure. I imagine this is already your thinking anyway.

How long should the slide out pressure run after the slide has been fully extended? I’ve been told 2-3 seconds.
