Slides…jacks first

So, apply logic. The coach is a Box that can and does twist. The slide is a box in a box that can and does twist. Both boxes are nested together with the strongest and most stable part of the slide…the outer wall when slides are in. To move the slide box, without being level, then move the house box, good things are not going to happen. So, level FIRST, run slide all the way out…done….NO releveling as you are now twisting both boxes with even more stress due to the slides now applying additional loads of leverage to the house frame….

Oh, Newmar is Level First…per their tech department and service bulletins. And….full length slide walls MUST have the coach level lest the “oh no!” Event will inevitably happen…. It’s all about physics and geometry….

Some deploy jacks first, some deploy slides first.

Just do what your manual says.
X2 ! If I recall correctly, Tiffin says to deploy leveling 1st, then slides.

Owners manual should be followed. If for no other reason that if something goes wrong, it may determine if owner pays of if Tiffin will cover the repair.

I use AUTO the second time also. Works fine.

On our 2020 Tiffin Allegro Red, especially with the hydraulic slides, I Level the coach first to stop any binding of the chassis and the slide. After it's completed the leveling process, I deploy all the slides and the use the auto level to relevel coach one more time. Sometimes after a day has passed, I may relevel the coach using the auto level after it has settled. Sometimes it makes minor adjustments and sometimes it's level perfectly. FYI, I always run the engine when using the hydraulics (Levers/Slides). I feel that it gives the hydraulic system less stress and also provides more power than the battery bank alone. IMHO..

Another county heard from

Another vote for doing whatever the owner's manual says. We do jacks first, then deploy slides (per our manual). Relatives with a 2014 Dutch Star deploy first, but only after checking the (flush/ recessed) slide gaps. Our slides aren't recessed when stored.

I do both procedures, depending on the circumstances. Parked in my cement driveway, on cement pads at RV parks etc., I park, extend the slides, dump the air and level slightly if it's a little off. When leaving I reverse the procedure.

If I park on the ground, rock drive RV pads etc., then it's check the levels (digital) and adjust the position of the coach to the most desirable spot, dump the air, level with the jacks and extend the slides.

So, the question is: With the second procedure, when you leave, do you just reverse the procedure and risk whatever damage you may cause?

Many of us know that some jacks leak off hydraulic fluid while the coach sets on the jacks. After a day, a week or a month, the coach may not be nearly as level and untwisted as it was when first leveled. Do you just start it up and retract the slides then retract the jacks, or do you do a new leveling process before retracting the slides?

How do you stop the incessant beeping? 2016 Phaeton. Instructions are to level then slide with either engine running or on shore power. If engine is running and I level, the hwh system does all kinds of beeping. If on shore power and I turn the ignition to on for the slides, I get a noxious beeping. I try do do this with all windows and doors closed so I don't disturb my neighbors. How do you do this quietly.

You don't. On my gas Open Road, you have to put the ign. key in and turn the ignition to RUN in order to deploy jacks and slides. I presume you do similar on your diesel. That beeping, for my setup, is to assure that I turn the ignition to OFF and remove my keys when I'm done.

leveling

On my Allegro Bus 37 AP with the Air and Jacks leveling I use the Air most of the time. I always level first then do the slides. On the Valid Air level system it automastcally wakes up every so many hours and cks the level and re levels if necessary. There is a small compressor under the frt cap that handles this.

I have beeping for the air system & the jacks system. The jacks system beeping is telling you to not try to drive off with them deployed. The air system is telling you the same thing: don't try to drive off without your system fully pressurized.

I think both are noisy but necessary warnings.

The warnings alarms are there for a reason.....to protect, those around you and the coach. Too many bad and dangerous things can and happened with jack and/or slides in motion. Jacks can cause the coach to move unexpectedly. You may know what is going on but others traveling with you or outside may not. Another reason is a reminder the jacks are down.....people (MANY) have driven off with jacks deployed and lots of coach bucks are the result.... damage to the coach, damage to the property, possible injury. ...On to slides.....again, "big machinery in motion". Large, hydraulic or cog driven slides can crush stuff not out of the way, including pets and people. Even a small Schwintek slide with 500:1 gearing can cause damage and injury. Now while you personally may not care about your safety, you have a moral and ethical obligation to ensure others and their property are not harmed..... If the little annoyance of the safety alerters is a problem, maybe you shouldn't be RVing...... These are big, potentially dangerous machines that have many ways to get into trouble very quickly....those operating them have the obligation to respect them!....End of Rant!

Can't get my head around slides out first. Even if Newmar says so. (My friend's Newmar says jacks first)
Logic would seem to favor jacks first so as to make the frame level, square and rigid before deploying slides which would tend to add stress outward.
