Slide out floor rotten wood

Just purchased 2008 Tiffin Phaeton 36QSH and noticed slide out under couch on outside has rotton wood when exposed covering. Cannot see anything on carpet inside to indicate water damage but obviously moisture got in there at some time. Anybody changed the floor out or do we need to lift carpet inside and work from there?

Can't comment on the question of anyone changing, but this was a well known problem during your model year (I think it was 2007 - 2010, give or take a year each way). Do a search on the "Big Three". Those three were roof rails, front slide out flooring and wet bay. If you're having a slide out flooring problem, you might as well go proactive and check the other 2. I believe up until a couple years ago when they stopped, Tiffin was still repairing these out-of-warranty items on their own dime.

Also, WELCOME to iRV2! I'm sorry your first post is a problem, but hopefully, it will be fixed in your favor.

doris, it doesn't hurt to ask tiffin. if they wont pay for all of it, maybe they would pay half. nothing lost by one call. especially if you can get hold of bob tiffin.

Agreed! If the OP can work this out with Tiffin, they (Tiffin) will probably insure that all three are covered.

Thanks for your responses. So we removed the couch and lifted the carpet on the affected slide and found no internal leakage, thank goodness! We think the exterior floor base on the slide had separated allowing some water to leak in on the side under the window, so we chipped out the dry rotten wood pieces and filled space with PL400, applied a undercarriage support to apply uniform pressure to sealed area for 24 hours. Then we applied JBweld to seal the outer edges. So far it looks great! Nice and flat and holding. WE will see what happens over time!

Slide Floor

We had the slide floor replaced in our 09 Phaeton last fall, the replacement floor Tiffin supplied was a plastic composite rather than plywood. Phillip Hollingsworth in Lodi CA did the work, took 1 day and they did a good job.
