Slide Outs

I have a 2008 tiffin allegro bus with electric slide outs in the rear. On the driver's side, when the slide comes in, I have been told to hold the button down for 3-5 seconds after it stops to make sure the slide motors are synchronized. when I do so, I hear a loud clicking sound on the forward side bottom of the slide, like maybe the drive gear is turning/skipping on the track. It shouldn't unless the track is loose from the drive motor shaft or the teeth on the drive gear are worn down/stripped.. any thoughts?? thanks, John

For today's Schwintek electric motor slides, the "hold for 3-5 seconds" once fully opened/closed is certainly applicable, so sounds reasonable for your MH as well. But you really need to validate that recommendation for your system.

I don't know your setup, but if you have tracks on the sides of your slide that interface with the motor gears, and you hear the clicking when the slide is retracted, it should be fairly easy to see if the tracks have any damage when the slide is extended. Any damage would be on the outermost section of the track if it exists. And hopefully with your slide extended, you can get a good look at the motor/gear (most likely just inside the rubber slide seal) to see any possible damage there, as well as the quality of the interface between gear and track.

I hope you can determine what, if any issue, you might have. Keep the Forum informed of what you find, as many on here will have experience directly related to your application. Good luck.

Just in case, here is a link (https://support.lci1.com/power-gear-...lideout-system) to technical manuals for the Power GearŪ Through Frame Slideout System that may be of some help to you.

Your vintage of coach does not have Schwintek slides nor do you need to hold the button down to "synchronize" anything. What is making the loud ratcheting noise the slide mechanism clutch reacting to protect the mechanism from a damaging itself. Take your finger off the button as soon as the slide compresses the seal.

The drive mechanism uses a single, internal track to move the slide. Remove the mattress and flip up the storage compartment led and you will see the mechanism mounted near the outside wall. Make sure you don't store anything under the bed that can interfere with the slide's movement.

Thanks for info on slides. Why would I get a clicking (loud...like a gear jumping a tooth) on just the driver side, and not the pass side?? both are elec. the ps just hums when you hold the "in" button down when the travel is complete. the ds does the loud clicking noise. completely different, and it doesn't sound like clutches slipping to me... You could have 2 different slide mechanisms. On my RV, the slide with the tracks visible from underneath (the hatches come out with the slide), does not ratchet. The bedroom slide (the hatches do not move with the slide) does ratchet. There must be a clutch on the bedroom slide to protect the mechanism.

My 2006 Allegro Bus drives side slides are electric and the passenger side slides are hydraulic, I believe the humming noise is you are at the end of the reach of the ram and the electric and hydraulic have built in safety feature to protect the systems

HI Folks and thanks. I called tiffin and talked to a tech and he said on my 2008 bus the drivers side slides are electric, and the PS are hydraulic, just as you have said. the owner's manual is vague on this point, and leads you to believe the fronts are hyd and the rears are elec. I note that even though the bus is a 2008, the manual while being for a 2008, was printed in 2004. they are also Lippert slides, I was told. Regards, John
