Surge Guard
I have a new 2015 Allegro Bus 37A it has some type of electrical guard built in. Do I need a 50 amp Suurge Guard also for additional protection? I had one for my old country coach but never used it.

I use Progressive 50 amp EMS in addition to the coach system. It has saved my butt more than once. IMO one can not have enough protection for bad pedestal, low voltage etc. lightning strike, which I just experienced, best $350.00 insurance I've ever paid for.

Your Bus has a built in surge suppressor and rudimentary lightning protection but if you check it's capabilities against the Progressive Industries unit you'll see how limited it really is. A number of people, me included, have put in the Progressive unit.

The answer to your question depends on the one thing you did not say.
you said "Some type of electrical guard"
We need to know WHAT TYPE.. If it is a Progressive Industries HW 30C or HW 50C the answer is no.
Others.. I can not advise w/o doing research. so the answer is "Perhaps".

My new 35QBA comes with protection but wonder if it is enough. I think 2600 Jules, whatever that means.
Thanks for your comments.

I'm using a plug in progressive unit. Kind of like I'm using an external water filter even though I've got a built-in water filter. RV's can't have to much protection, Dave

That is your transfer switch and no, it does not provide adequte protection. Your biggest potential problems are not surges but mis-wired pedestals. Get yourself a Progressive Industries 50 amp wired or portable unit. These will protect you from high/low voltages, open grounds, frequency issues, and spikes.

It's not enough especially for something that expensive. I know that first hand.
Spent the money and upgrade to a Progressive.

I just went thru this same question on the Class A site. I got a lot of good info, even though my 2014 Tiffen has a Surge Guard 41260. I purchased a Progressive Ind. EMS PT50 just in case. I found on line for $329. free shipping.
