I had missed the part about servicing the 90 degree box and first decided to change the oil in it at 40,000 miles. Did it again at 60,000. I had read about the box failures, so at 82,000 miles I had a new Curtis one installed intending to have the original for a spare, just like the spare DEF head I have carried. Then out of the blue, we decoded we didn't need the coach in our current lifestyle. It sold to the first party to look at it. At least now, he has a new gearbox.

I too read about the various gear box failures when we first bought our Bus, and ordered a new spare. Just in case. Figured if never needed, would just sell it for what I paid, and looks like in the last couple of years that box has gained almost $300 in value over what it cost when purchased. Didn't want to be stuck waiting for weeks for a replacement box so having my spare was an "insurance" policy. Plus when i ordered it took almost 3 weeks to get, have no idea now how long a wait time would be now.

Washington to SoCAL, 1250 miles, and no signs of the previous leak. I think overfilling at the Tiffin factory was the cause.

I couldn't get the side plug out, so I'm looking to bring out the big gun - impact wrench with an allen wrench socket.

Can anyone tell me if it is an SAE or metric allen wrench for those plugs?

Thanks. I got an SAE 1/2" drive allen wrench socket set. This winter I'll try it again, first with the longest breaker base I have.

I have a 2010 Allegro Bus 40 QXP that has a leaking (at least a grease and dirt covered) fan gearbox. I'm wondering how you removed the gearbox as I can barely see it much less get the bolts out. I removed the bottom shield and tried to remove the fill plug but I couldn't get it loose. There's too much oil on it to use map gas so I tried o heat it with my heat gun but that didn't work. I would like to remove the gearbox and replace the seals.

Ypu need to remove the fan from the gearbox and lay it in the shroud. Disconnect drive shaft to gearbox . . . Unbolt gearbox and remove. I had to do mine mostly from up above hanging into the engine compartment. I think I also had to remove a turbo hose to get it out.

I did all my RR from the bottom. I also added a extended breather tube with filter at the end of that. If you replace the seals don't forget to use the right sealant for that application,
