Tiffin's frameless one piece molded slides
We are looking at purchasing a 2017 Tiffin Allegro Bus 40SP. It has the frameless one piece molded slides. Since Tiffin no longer make them, does anyone have any experience having them or opinions as far as the pros and cons?
Does anyone know why they stopped making them? Was it cost or did they have problems with them?
Thank you

We have them. We’ve had no problems with them except for the sag of the cabinets on the galley slide. Ours has not sagged as much as others but it is noticeable. Tiffin was installing a steel strap along the ceiling of some.
Other than that, I see no problems with them.
I think Tiffin stopped using them because of the cost.

So far it has been all Pros for me and no Cons. Functionally great with a high end quality look. Tiffin stopped using them for several reasons one being the purchase by Thor Industries. One of Thor’s subsidiaries makes slide boxes.

We also have the seamless slides and love the look and no chance of leaks anywhere. So far we have not had any sagging issues or problems. I was disappointed when they stopped using them on the newer coaches.

Thanks for the replies. I spoke to a Tiffin rep at a RV show last year and asked her why they quit making them. She said because they were too hard to adjust. She may have just been quoting the company line.

When I took the factory tour last year, they said that it wasn't cost effective to keep making them because there are so many different sizes. don't know if that's the reason but I wish my 2023 had them, they look so clean.

Just an opinion here but the excuses given above for discontinuation of the frameless slides sound pretty lame to me.
As for many different sizes, there wouldn't be any more different sizes of molded slides than there would be of conventional built slide sizes.
As for cost effectiveness, you only have to make one mold to make 100 slide boxes of a particular size. That's why auto makers make thousands of car fenders from one mold, cost effectiveness.
As for adjusting, can't see any reason they would be significantly different from a conventionally built slide, unless it had to do with attaching a drive system to the bottom of the slide with no framework. I really have a hard time believing there was no framework in the molding.
As for the shape of a slide, long straight runs of molded plastic or fiberglass has little rigidity as compared to boats made out of the same products. The continuous rounded, curved shapes in a boat provide a lot of rigidity to the finished product. I can see a lot of ceiling sagging and floor warping from the weight, and I would guess that was the major factor in their discontinuation.
I wish my coach had slides that looked as good as the molded slides look.

How can you identify the different build slides?
Thanks,

Our 2019 Bus has the frame less slides. We love the look. We have had zero problems. No cabinet sagging of course we don't carry tremendous weight in our overhead cabinets. Our slides are built as one piece units meaning no leaks. No regrets and love them.

We have them on 2020 AB 40IP and like others have said love the clean look. There’s also the added benefit of not having to caulk seams. Good luck with the purchase of your coach. We’ve spent a lot of time at tiffin between this and the previous coach, the techs there say 2017 - 2018 was their high water mark. One thing for sure it’s a pre Covid era build when quality materials were still readily available and being used . Get a NRVIA inspection done before buy … I hope it works out for you.
