Touch up paint

Is it possible to get small quantities of touch up paint from Tiffin?

We've been trying to get some touch up paint for a while. A few people recommended a place online but they didn't have our paint codes. Tiffin won't ship the paint so we ended up being in Red Bay the last several days and while here, were able to get our paint.

You may have better luck than us online, we have a 14 and had zero luck.

X2 on Rob I also use Automotive Touch up in New Orleans. My Allegro Bus has the paint code on a inventory sheet pasted in the rear closet. You can call and give them the paint code and most of the time they can cross to their chart. In the past Tiffin has used auto manufactures paint so the key is to finding what car and model the paint fits. My colors are from a Cadillac and a Dodge.

If you can't get the paint codes there is one other possibility. Some auto parts stores have paint departments with computer equipment that lets them snap a photo of your paint and it computes the mix and gives you a perfect match. You would have to be able to remove some part to take in for them to do this.

I got it done at O'Reilly's Auto Parts!

Most Auto Paint Suppliers have a “Camera” that can take a picture and analyze the paint color. In some cases they do provide a prefect color in other cases not so much. The camera needs a flat panel at least a 3” square that the camera can seal (.i.e, no external light). If there is a panel that can be remove and left with the shop they can use the camera to get close and then tint to get it perfect. Might be able to use a refrigerator access panel or a water heater door to sample the paint.

For a car I was working on I left the glove box door and they mixed and tinted for a perfect match. In a second case the used the camera to match an exterior color and although the color was perfect it was missing the metallic or pearl. Took the trunk lid in and the were able to add the missing component for a perfect match. It just takes a little longer.

Tiffin won't ship... is this new?

I ordered a small bottle of touch up paint from Tiffin. They sent it no problem. The cost was about $7 US dollars and the shipping was about $8... LOL

Perhaps it depends on the year. At any rate, since we could not get it from Tiffin either, we got it from a local paint supplier of automotive body shops. They have a camera system to read and match the colors.

I have had no luck online, even from the place in New Orleans. We are planning a trip to Red Bay this spring and hope to pick it up then.

I don't know why everyone else seems to find it online. I was in the same boat as you and I tried everything short of driving to a paint store to have them put the computer on the coach for a paint match. I finally got mine last week in Tiffin.

Now I have been reading and watching everything I can on how to touch it up properly. Seems the biggest tool I will need is patience. Most of mine are very small chips but I do have a couple spots I think will need a tiny bit of filler. One thing I watched last night was kind of interesting. Dealing with chips that are on the side, in order to keep the touch up paint from allowing gravity to pull it toward the ground, this person used a hair dryer, at a slight angle, to keep the paint spread out until it set up. I am going to practice a bit before doing the coach.
