Towing a 2019 Ford Expedition

Towing weight for 2018 Tiffin 36LA is 5000 lbs. Can we tow a 2019 Ford Expedition with a weight of 5;543 to 5,692?

Can and should require different answers. You can but IMO shouldn’t for a number of reasons. Your hitch is rated 5000 lbs for a reason and if you’re ever in an accident the other attorney will jump all over you’re being overweight.

I see that your original question dealt with towing a Chevy Colorado. I guess you decided against purchasing the pick-up?? So, have you purchased the Expedition? If not, you already understand it exceeds the stated capability of your hitch. No one can or should tell you that combination won't fail at some point regardless of what your eventual experience might be. There is a reason for establishing and prominently stating limits. I'd also be very curious what your combined weight will be with that combo. You'd certainly have to be mindful of the weight you're carrying in the coach itself to not exceed your GCWR of 30,000 lbs. And finally, I certainly would not want to be dragging that weight behind me with the Ford in spite of the improvements Incorporated in 2016 and later chassis. And so, I'd not recommend the Expedition as your toad for this motorhome.

Can you? Yes. Should you? No.

No. See the Ford spec sheet for your chassis. I have the 2018 F53 with 26K chassis. The tow limit is 4000 pounds. It's not based on the tow hitch rating. Be safe and aware of the consequences for overloading. Legal, safety, insurance and protecting your loved ones and others you share the road with.

It's possible he has a 24K chassis which would permit use of the full 5000 lb capability of the hitch. Either way, though, the Expedition goes beyond the stated capability of the hitch.

Everyone is mentioning the hitch... don't forget the transmission. Unless things have changed in the last couple years, the transmission is just as much a part of the equation. In fact and if I remember correctly, some early model pushers with the Allison 2500 (5000 tow rating) couldn't (were not suppose to) even tow the full 5k, because some of extra weight of the motorhome had to be subtracted from the transmission's 5k tow rating (I think some early model Reds may have been a part of this).

Not necessarily. What matters here is the 30,000 pound GCWR and the 5000 pound receiver rating. The tow limit isn't 4000 pounds unless the coach is already loaded to its GVWR of 26,000 pounds: 4000+26,000= 30,000. However if the coach loaded weighed only 25,000 pounds (and many loaded coaches weigh considerably less than GVWR) then the coach could pull the 5000 pounds allowed by the hitch receiver and the 30,000 pound GCWR: 5000+25,000=30,000.

I'm in a situation with a 24,000 GVWR, a 30,000 GCWR, a 5000 receiver and a 5000 pound toad. My coach weight, all loaded, is 22,500 and adding the 5000 pounds of the loaded toad and toad rigging I hit running weight of 27,500 pounds. I have 2500 pounds of left over GCWR I can't use because I'd run out of receiver rating.
