Towing a trailer behind my Tiffin

I recently discovered that I am one of about 112 people in the US who have a Pontiac GTO and am an original owner. The GTO Association of America wants me to drive to Springfield IL for their 2023 National event next June. Since the distance from home is about 900 miles each way I am thinking of renting a trailer to take my car to the event and towing it behind my motorhome. Does anyone know if the air brake motorhome is factory equipped for towing a trailer with electric brakes?

If I’m not mistaken, Tiffin does include the harness for a brake controller. It’s usually stuffed up under the dash near the steering column. You’ll need a brake controller as well like a Prodigy.
Hopefully someone on here can direct you to the harness and it’s wiring.
What year is your GTO? I always wanted a 1964, a real muscle car

GTO

It's a 1968 convertible. Except for a few minor things it's 100% original.

If you rent a trailer it will probably have surge brakes.

Yes, the Tiffin has the wire harness for a controller stuffed up under the dash that is already wired into the seven pin receptacle next to the hitch. You just need a controller wired into it. As mentioned, many rental trailers have surge brakes. I don't care for them, but they do work.

Thank You

If I take the car to the GTOAA event I will likely rent a U-Haul trailer with the surge brakes.
Thank You for all the input.

IIRC the RED only has a 5k hitch. A U-Haul car trailer weighs over 2k not leaving you much capacity. How much does the GTO weigh?

Towing

We regularly tow a 8000 lb enclosed trailer with racecar behind our Phaeton, don't really notice it's there until you hit a hill. I much prefer towing a trailer with electric brakes over surge brakes because yo have some control over how hard the trailer brakes work. A brake control that is proportional to how hard you apply the coach brakes is the best way to go.

Nice car and I'm a big GTO fan! Grew up with a 1966 and then a 1970.

Only problem I found with U-Haul car trailer rental is if you don't rent a truck at the same time, they won't rent you the trailer. I guess for people moving they want to be able to offer both.

Tiffin Trailer Towing

We have a 2011 Allegro Breeze. The 7 pin trailer receptacle does have a circuit for electric brakes. It is the large blue wire. I connected to it by intercepting the wire in the outside electrical cabinet under the driver's window. The unit supposedly has " a convenient connection under the dash." After three attempts to find it, I undid the outer wrapping on the wiring harness from the rear to splice into the blue wire. I traced the circuit with a test light before hooking it to a Tekonsha trailer brake controller. No problems with it. If the blue wire is under the dash, it is exceptionally well hidden among all the other white wires with microscopic markings. Good luck!

Trailering my GTO

Thank You for all the input. I recently received a replacement window sticker from Pontiac Historic services and thought some might like to see it. Click to make it larger.

Even though it’s quite old I’ll give you full sticker price for the GTO
