Used Tiffin 40ft DP advice

I am looking at 40 ft phaetons or allegro buses, only with cummins engines so 2008 or newer on the phaetons and likely 2006 or newer in allegro. I would love to hear from owners about these models in these years or up to three years newer. I have read about some roof problems and others, would really like to know what years to avoid. Also heard of some other issues with wet floors (not even sure what that is) Also the ride and handling difference between the two models. Looking for a long term purchase so thanks for your help. tom

The "wet floor" was the wet bay floor.

Tiffin's n had a couple of years where they had problems with the top rails cracking. During those same model years the wet bay floor was wood and not fiberglass. Tiffin repaired those under warranty IF the owner took the coach in.
Those are the issues you are probably hearing about.

Known as the big three - roof rail, wet bay floor, and DS LR slide floor. Some years have been mitigated, many have been factory or authorized repaired. Tiffin has been very good about doing repairs. The items are not deal killers, rather something to be aware. A call to Tiffin with the VIN of a prospective coach purchase will learn you if impacted, if fixed, and warranty status.

If you are contemplating Tiffin be sure and join the Tiffin RV Network, a forum dedicated to Tiffin owners. A huge amount of tribal knowledge there.

Bus vs. phaeton? Both great coaches IMHO. Bus has independent front suspension and side radiator.

I am currently in the process of purchasing a 2009 Phaeton 40QDH with delivery scheduled in July.
I called Tiffin with the VIN yesterday and was told:
All recalls preformed
  • Coach has not been to factory for service
  • Of the big three - side rails and wet bay floor are covered under warranty for another year.
I plan on going to Red Bay after taking delivery in Florida.

i bought a 08 Phaeton March of this year.. I had noticed the wet bay looked "new". A call to Tiffin confirmed that it had been there and was checked for the Big 3. the wet bay was the only issue... roof rails were and still are fine with no cracks etc.. the slide floor is solid as can be..
The other issue is the DS rear slide out stress crack. Which on my Rv has been fixed and professionally done.

Not all RV of those "known issue years" have all of those problems..

My 2009 has no issue with slide floor but other 2 were fixed. Take it to Red Bay and when you check in, Norris will check for the big three. Has a crew that comes over to verify. If needed they will schedule the repair.

What models were affected by these issues? Wondering if the Allegro gassers and REDs were involved as well.

I just bought a 2011 in MI ,Drove it home to Delaware its been stored in a pole barn since new 6000 miles on it.
Got it home noticed cracks on side rails took pictures and Tiffin Allegro office in Conn is going to fix it and cover the costs I figured I was lucky on this one. Turn around time about a week .I think the coverage is good for another year.

Rtruman, Heads Up. Watch for cracks in the curved windshield. Tiffin went with a flatter windshield in later year models. I met a guy in Yuma this winter who had replaced his curved windshield 8 times.
