VGT Exhaust Brake Issues with ISL - 2014 MY

I have been reading a lot of threads about the 2014 model year, first year with the ISL, and issues with the VGT exhaust brake not working. It appears that there was an issue with the throttle pedal not returning fully to zero and as a result the exhaust brake wouldn’t come on. Physically lifting the throttle pedal or letting it snap back seemed to be a solution.

I haven’t been able to find any follow-up information on this and whether it carried into later years, was a problem specific to the 2014 model year or whether there was some type of recall to correct the issue. Several members mentioned that FL wanted their old throttle pedals back for analysis.

Curious if anyone has any further information on this issue and it’s resolution.

I learned at a Tiffin rally that a Cummins Service Center or at Red Bay Service Center they could hook up the lap top to the “Cummins Insight” system and set your engine brake to come on when you let off the throttle pedal vs. having to tap the foot brake to initiate the engine brake.

This also works well with the cruise control set while descending a hill. The engine brake will automatically come on 3-4 mpg over the cruise control set speed.

We had our 2011 Bus set up at Cummins and our 2019 Bus set up at Red Bay. It works well. You can toggle between Lo & Hi depending on the hill.

Remember never to use the engine brake on slick roads.

This is the way commercial motor vehicles are set up.

Engine brake <> exhaust brake. Do you know if the set up info is transferable?

There was a recall from Freightliner on the throttle. We got one for the 2014 Phaeton we owned. They replaced the whole throttle assembly.
Depending on the date of your chassis you might be included
