Weird Inverter Behavior
So this will probably make sense to those with solid electrical fundamentals, and I am sincerely interested in learning from someone like you. Here’s what happened...
Picked my coach up from the shop where a new BlueOx setup was installed. In the course of conversation, the mechanic told me that my 12volt salesman switch didn’t shut anything off. He had turned off the inverter - probably wanting to keep the house batteries from needing to be plugged in. At any rate, I got back to storage, turned off the inverter, plugged in to trickle charge the batteries and left the unit. About two weeks later, I return and find the damn 110v GFCI plug had tripped and the house batteries were non-responsive. The Magnum remote indicated the following error; ‘No Inverter Comm’. After leaving everything plugged in to 110v for 24 hours, I came back and found the systems to be the same.
I tried some of what I found posted on this site. Specifically, I flipped the 12volt salesman switch - nothing happened. I disconnected and reconnected the communication cable and network cable - nothing happened. I attempted to manually turn on the inverter at the inverter itself. I went and did those same things again in different order with no change. I cycled the house batteries kill switch - nothing happened. Then I pushed the retraction button for the shore power cable - it worked, but nothing happened with the inverter. All of this time I have been plugged in to 110 shore power. Then I go in the coach, try to turn on a 12v kitchen light - nothing happened. Then while walking to the front of the coach, the whole darn thing came back to life.
I am pleased that the inverter is now back, the charging system is recharging the batteries, and things seem to be on the path to happy again. BUT I DON’T UNDERSTAND!!! Can somebody with a solid understanding of the Tiffin electrical design please help explain this to me?
