What's happening in Red Bay
We've been gone a while and thinking of going to Red Bay for service on our new coach. When is a good time to travel east from Arizona to Red Bay? Southern route on the 10 or the 40? Trying to avoid snow and freezing temperatures.
We now have an Allegro Bus 40ip, 2021

If you want to go to Red Bay and not wait for weeks to get repairs completed, you need to go in January or February. The other "off" time is mid-June to mid-August but the wait times will be several days to a week depending what has to be done.

I have had good luck in Red Bay from after Thanksgiving until the end of February from a quick service standpoint. It does get cold and they turn off the water in some of the campgrounds after Thanksgiving. Not too big a deal, because Tiffin keeps one spigot working for folks to drive up and fill up with water.
BUT - In the wintertime, I-40 is not always your friend! Flagstaff and Albuquerque are particularly troublesome in the winter. But, anywhere along i-40 is subject to a snow or ice storm anytime in the winter.
We passed through Flagstaff about 2 weeks ago on Oct 12 and there was ice/snow on I-40 from a few miles east of Flagstaff all the way to Williams. Ice all over the coach and a slow jittery ride!
If going to Red Bay in the winter, watch the weather reports closely or plan the more southerly route.
Regards.
Chuck

Just made that run. Phoenix to red bay on mostly 40. Watch out though on 40 east of Albuquerque. Can be snowing there and traffic jams. Dec -Jan I would guess 10 is better. It does snow in Kansas and Oklahoma at times. Just watch the weather.

If you want the lowest risk of snow/ice and are traveling in the December to February time frame, I suggest you take I-10.

Head to Red Bay
Thank you so much to all of you who replied! This helps so much. We were thinking the I 10 but you all comfirmed it.
Anytime we can avoid the snow and ice, the better!
Now once we get there will they have the parts or will we be enjoying all the wonders of Red Bay??!!!! That's the question we all have! Will let you all know.

After reading here, I am reminded how glad I am that I bought from a dealer that can perform 95% of what Red Bay can. An appointment and a 40 mile drive is sure better than a 900 mile drive to sit and wait several days just to get in. Thanks Kings Campers.

Looking at the “other” Tiffin site, someone just left RB and stated it was crowded, large backups, parts shortages in the RB store, campgrounds full….it appears not a good time to visit.

RB
We just spoke to someone we know at the service center. He said the same thing about how crowded. Looks like we'll wait til February.

As has been stated January and February are the best months to go. Do understand if your coach is less then one year old you can camp free at the Allegro Campground. However the water will be turned off at the time of the first freeze and will remain off until spring. There is water available to fill your tank. It is always busy in the fall and spring as that is when all of the snowbirds pass through.

Left there a week ago last Friday. Very crowded. Six day wait to get into an express bay (we arrived on a Saturday).
Knowing the problem was fixed right, faster, and for far less* than anyone local to me would/could have done it was more than worth the wait.
* I about bust out laughing when I saw a sign apologizing for their recent increase in the hourly service rate … to $125 per hour (for two techs). Around here it’s about $190 and you get one guy who probably has never seen a coach like yours before.
And, there’s so much to do in Red Bay!
Regards,
Randy

We bought our Tiffin 33AA from Kings. Great place to buy, unfortunately I live in Texas.
Regards, Jerry

What’s Happening in Red Bay
Just left very crowded. Overflow full and all other rv parks. They are a week and half out on express bay. Best time to go after thanksgiving and before Christmas.
