Why a Phaeton?

On our trip to the desert this year and at our site I have seen more of that brand/model than any other. Next closest is the Dutchstar. Just curious what reasons you chose this DP.

Thanks!

For many years, the Phaeton has been (or is) the number one selling diesel pusher. In our case, we stepped up from an Allegro Open Road to a 2019 Phaeton 40IH, all electric. We spent about 1 year comparing floor plans and visiting Red Bay and dealers to compare models. Going in to final decision we were sold on a 40AH until we did a test drive in the 40IH. The flat floor, with no step in the back, the handling, and the floor plan sold us. In addition the raised rail chassis with the amount of storage underneath was a plus. If we had to do it over, we would make the same decision. The only caveat is, we should have considered the Allegro Bus 40IP.

Allegro Bus for us!

After owning a 2010 Allegro RED, we were looking seriously at a 2019 or 2020 Phaeton 40IH. Actually flew out to potentially buy one this past spring but the deal didn't happen. This fall we upped the ante and decided on the Allegro Bus that I bought last month. I know that we would have been happy with the Phaeton, but with the Bus there are no second thoughts.

Started with an Allegro Red, then the 40’ all electric phaeton, and now a 2018 phaeton. Chose phaeton for two reasons. Best value for the money with the floor plans we wanted, and great tiffin customer support. Think this is our last, but if we were to buy again, the phaeton would be top of our list to consider.

Hello Pargolfer -

Some of the things that have made the Phaeton be such a popular choice over the years are storage, the luggage doors and the feel of the Phaeton interior because of the cabinetry.

The folks that have already responded have given some great reasons why they chose theirs - beginning in the 2024 model year, we went to all 450HP engines across the board in Phaetons and all Phaetons now have the same floor level all the way through...no step up into the rear bath and move storage down in the basement. In addition, our overhead compartments inside the coach are the largest in the RV industry and our solid wood cabinetry just adds a real warmth to the interior.

Also, our luggage compartments are the strongest, nicest closing out there!

And of course, Tiffin Motor Homes customer service!

If you have any additional product questions, please feel free to reach out to me any time and I'll be glad to get you any answers you need

Because we no longer could afford a Dutch Star.

Ditto all of the above. It has been the number one best selling diesel pusher for a number of years, probably because it gives you the most bang for the buck. We've had our Phaeton for seven years and have absolutely no regrets.

Because my Phaeton had all the features I wanted in a diesel coach without being overpriced. AND, I could get Bob Tiffin to sign the back of a cupboard door at a Rally. Now, with what other mfr can you get your coach autographed by the company owner??

Thanks for all your responses. So what most said was great floorplan, bang for the buck and customer service. What about general overall reliability vs other brands?

DAJO you said cuz you couldn’t afford a DS anymore. Is that because of the price point bs the Phaeton or the repairs you’ve had to make while you owned it.

Thanks again,
Chuck

Both at the time we traded the Dutch Star (used) had gone up more than Phaeton. For the first year with the Phaeton it cost four to six hundred dollars for parts every time we used it. Failures seem to have stabilized now, previous owner did very little to maintain.

We bought a new Phaeton in 2022 and never looked back. The 40IH floor plan sold us. Full timing and 24,000 miles later we have never looked back. Plenty of power for mountains (450 hp motor).

I stayed in a campground where a really good independent service tech 'resided'. He had a 2019 Phaeton. His big sell was that the radiator was in the back. Said it cooled better that side radiators. Probably my only beef is the engine is somewhat hard to get to.

Tiffin has also been a pleasure to work with on the few issues we have had.

We LOVE our Phaeton!

We brought our current Phaeton 5 yrs ago an have taken some great trips and with owning one you expect problems and most are trivial but in our case the read PS electric slide has been noting but problems. I'm hoping the most recent fix with yet another RV repair facility near us has resolved it once in for all otherwise on our way back to Maine this summer we will have to stop in CT. and plunked down a large amount of money to replace it and probably the other side the same time. I've talked with Tiffin and LCI when it went down several times in the end they couldn't help. Most other issues have more vendor issues like a leaky dometic toilet that I can't seem to get fixed, Awning issues, etc. but we do love the ride, the single level floor front to back and the room especially in the basement. Allegro bus is nice too just a bit fancier than ours.

Hi - On the new side, both Newmar and Entegra have priced themselves into a box. We had 2 Dutch Stars and at that time they were a good buy. Not any more. Entegra likewise and unlike Newmar the content quality has gone down. Tiffin offers the best value for the price. There may be some attributes the other brands have that are better but for the overall picture it is hard to beat Tiffin, especially with the increase in QA that our current coach shows.
