Windshield cracked

Just returned from a 4-day trip, parked the RV a couple of days ago and put the day/night shades down. Raised them today to put the foil ther a barrier in place, and noticed a vertical crack on the driver's side, top to bottom. Is this normal for a W/S to crack for apparently no reason at all? Temps are in the 80s during the day, 75 at night. I'm still scratching my head over how it happened?!? No stars in the glass where it was hit by a rock or other object. Just a nice clean crack from top to bottom. Hard to see from outside, but saw it right away when I raised the blinds.

Any thoughts on causes? Is this normal? And for the worst question... How much to replace a W/S in these monstrosities?

Well, as to the question of cost, I submitted a request to RV Windshield Replacement | Recreational Vehicle Windshield Replacement and Repair | RV Glass Solutions and they came back with a quote of $2665 before tax. Wow.

That's what both panels on my rig cost to replace. Glad I paid $40 for glass coverage 😀

Call Red Bay with your VIN for a quote. They are very good at replacement, took a stone 4 years ago and another this June.

Quote is in the $1600 range for a 2007 Allegro Bus, and will head to Red Bay mid November for repair, when we will be only a day away.

Or live in Kentucky, zero glass waiver state. . . .Means they can't charge you a deductible for any glass payment, and can't raise you insurance premiums because of a claim.

Replaced both front windshields on our coach, total cost $0.00!

That's my question .. Don't you have comprehensive insurance? If you do it's the cost of your deductible. Normally no hit on your insurance for glass.

Some years ago we purchased a new 2004 Alfa See Ya motorhome. Shortly after purchase the windshield cracked. Alfa replaced it under warranty, explaining that the front cap had some projections into the windshield area that were not cleaned up during construction. We informed the glass company that did the replacement and they cleaned up the windshield opening before install. No more problems.

I guess. But the 4' level shows that we are pretty darn level, both ways. Even the butter in the skillet stays pretty centered, the one true indication of level; it's how I know a Jack has settled without turning on the ignition.
