windshield replacement tips

The windshield in my 08 32ft Allegro fred cracked. I returned from a long trip where we hit a few miles of bad road and a very large pot hole....trench. I pulled off, wheels & tires where fine....three days later the windshield had a crack drivers side. As I looked the windshield over.... the gasket had moved. I am in the Raleigh / Durham NC area. Any heads up...best place to take it ....camper world ok?
thanks

Campers World probably doesn't do a volume of windshield repairs. Their techs might be O.K., but I would go to a glass shop that does windshields on a daily basis. It's often recommended that, especially if the gasket has shifted as you report, that both panes of windshield be removed and reinstalled with the new section. Use Google and search for "RV windshield replacement" and read reviews.

We had our passenger side window replaced about a year ago by a local glass shop. The CW near us was twice the cost and I found out that they would've sent it out to the same glass shop. It was about $1,200, but my comprehensive insurance covered all but the $100 deductible! 😄

First off, check with your insurance company. You should have coverage under the comprehensive section of your policy. These windshields cost up to $2500 so paying a deductible is a lot easier on the pocket book. You will want to know who they are contracted with for windshield repair/replacement. Ask them where you are supposed to take the coach for repair (it's not like your car which can be done in a parking lot). You always have the option to take the coach to Red Bay (they have a special windshield shop).

Actually, our windshield was replaced in our driveway in about three hours. They also treated some rust issues. They were approved by our insurance company and were the subcontractors for CW in Troutdale, Oregon.

thanks....all of you!

my insurance company wants me to pick a glass installer, get an estimate and they will cut me a check.... they insure few MH and do not have a preferred glass installer. One installer says caution is in order.... hard hits can cause the opening to be out of true. That it needs to be measured before the new windshield is installed. So maybe a trip to AL is smartest.
