Do you have the Winegard SK3005 dish?
We've found that ours is amazing at picking up signals even when there are significant branches in the way... but it does have its limitations. Although we like the shade provided by the trees... we usually choose sites which will give us a clear view for the satellite.

We are talking about a satellite dish and not just the crank up OTA antenna? Do you have Dish or DirecTv?
Rick

We have the top-mount antenna, but also have a tailgater (Dish Network), that we can plug-in and run the coax to wherever needed to get a signal.

When I am parking in an area with trees the reception is not really good ,tiles often and constantly have to adjust with controller. Sorry for the confusion about whether it was television antenna or the satellite antenna . Thanks for responding

If you have a 'smart' phone there is a great app to help you find the exact location of the satellites before you set up. There are likely others, but I use and like "Satellite AR". It is a free app. It will locate virtually any satellite(s) in the sky. When I open the app I simply click on "Direct TV" and a big circle and arrow will appear on the screen pointing to the satellites. Move the screen in the direction of the arrow until you can actually see the satellites on the screen. You will immediately see if there are any trees or other obstructions between you and the satellites.
Sometimes just a few feet forward or back will make all the difference.

If you're using the OTA, then a great app to use is TV Antenna Helper. It will give you relative tower locations, stations IDs and signal strengths.

By the way, OTA is 'over the air', meaning an older style standard antenna.
Most are crank up Winegard Batwings. Special antennas are NOT needed to receive High Def TV signals.
Antenna mfg's and sales people are happy to sell you new gear but
odds are you will see no improvement for your 'upgrade'.

The Winegard OTA antenna is directional. You need to be sure your antenna is pointed toward the station. I use an app called TV Towers which gives me the direction to the station. Then I turn the antenna in roughly that direction and peak it using the signal meter on my TV.

Hey bukzin , I'm a little slow here. So what you are saying is that the HD tv antenna mounted mid coach is not really necessary ? The power is similar to that of the otc .This thing has a handheld controller that apparently is for rotating something in the (12inch diameter by approximately 6 inch high ) antenna assembly that stops or minimizes the tiling on the tvs . It is very frustrating ,I'm just trying to determing whether I have a problem or just operator misunderstanding. Thanks for responding .

We have had similar issues with OTA HD.
With HD here is a fine line between signal, and no signal, that's when you get the tiling ( digital version of snow) mostly it will occur if you are in the outskirts of the market, we have had to tweek the antennae on and off, sometimes losing a channel we have been watching earlier with no problem. What I don't know is if TV station reduce power at dusk like radio stations, which would explain why if I do lose channels it's in the evening.
