Exclamation Xantrex 458 Inverter

I have a 2000 Allegro bus and I am on my 4th Xantrex Inverter. I started out charging 6 lead acid batteries and went through the first 3 inverters. I went down to 4 Gel Cells and my fourth Xantrex Inverter and all my problems went away for 3 years. Now I'm getting ready to leave on a 3000 mike trip and I have a problem that I think again is the Invereter. When I plug into shore power, the Heart Interface does not indicate any "AC". And the Inverter has no indicator lights on the front and has no DC output. 120 VAC is being supplied to the inverter. Also when I run my generator the charging part of the Inverter does not work, just like the "Shore Power" plug. I have checked all AC voltages and everything is OK.

Has anyone ever seen this problem?

Thanks,

Jack

Hey Jack,
You have an Inverter/ Charger combo.
A CONverter charges batteries.
An INverter takes current from batteries and produces a/c for the tv, stereo, dvd, etc.
It sounds like you have a CONverter side problem.
Check for blown fuses before you buy a new or refurbished.
Electrical guys and gals, where are you?

The Freedom 458 modified sine wave inverter/charger isn't a work of art. I would replace it with a Magnum true sine wave inverter/charger (which is what Tiffin is now putting in the (Allegro Bus) because it puts out cleaner power, is more durable, and is American made and serviceable, unlike Xantrex's latest off-shore models. It sounds like you have issues with both the inverter and charger sides so I don't expect it'll be as simple as replacing a fuse or a circuit board.

Make sure that you check the ac connections going in and coming out of the unit...Loose connections cause heat and can burn things up...
