02 American Eagle Storage Area Wall Trim

Hello All
We have a new to us 02 AE that I am learning and personalizing.

Couple of days ago I finally noticed some gaps in the decorative trim that covers the joint between wall and the storage areas. I want to make sure I avoid that dreaded basement rust so I want to seal this now that the unit will be stored outside for the foreseeable future.

I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me how it was originally attached? It is not loose but in some areas it seems to have some of movement (1/16-1/8) at the top edge and I would like to fix that if its something that should be done (I may have a tendency to overthink sometimes LOL).

Any help is much appreciated.

I'm not clear on what wall trim you want to seal - the red circle covers a vertical seam that has to be open to move the door and a horizontal belt that ought to be factory sealed. The latter can be touched up with any quality exterior caulk if needed (I like 3M Body Seam Seal for that purpose). But neither of those is where the bay compartment rust (or electrolysis) is likely to originate. The problem in older American coaches is primarily dissimilar metals causing corrosion and it occurs where the bay boxes are fastened to the steel chassis and house subfloor.

Good morning Gary, sorry I should have zoomed in closer. It is definitely the horizontal seam I want to seal. I was making some mods to my storage areas and noticed some corrosion along the top rail of the bay opening. Thats when I investigated and found the gaps. So far I have not seen any sign of corrosion on the bottom rails.

I have some Proflex arriving today and will get out there to seal it this weekend if the weather supports me.
I was just wondering how that trim is attached in case there is a way to tighten it first.

thanks for the quick response

The belt trim covers the seam between the upper body and the lower, bay area. It is typically glued and screwed in place, with a tiny bead of caulk along the upper edge. The actual seam is underneath the trim, so that's the place where water might actually enter.

I'm also sending you a private message on this subject.
