Question 12VDC plug rated amps?

I'm looking to get a macerator pump that is 12v DC powered. I found the manual for this particular model and it says that it should be powered with a 20 amp source.

Now my 2016 35K Bounder has a 12vdc power connector in the water/sewer bay. Unfortunately, I can't find the amperage rating on that plug.

Anyone know what that power connection amp rating is?

Check the size of the fuse protecting that plug. They usually are not rated to handle 20 amps. 20 amps at 12 v is 240 watts. You'll need heavier gauge wiring and I'd wire it directly with a fuse in the circuit. If you want the pump to be portable, install it with a dedicated, properly rated, connection. A cigarette lighter type plug isn't rated for that kind of power. Most every plug has a fuse under the nose pin, much less than what your pump needs.

Thanks. I also just found the answer... it is rated for 8 amps! Sounds like I'll be doing some wiring (don't really want to carry around a battery just for this).
