15 year old Onan diesel generator
7500kw gen with about 360 hours, 15 years old only runs for 30 seconds then shuts down. i have done all the fixes the fault codes indicate with NO resolve.
Cummins wants about 500$ to take the unit out of the coach, and then diagnose it to see whats worng.
How many of you out there would risk this? I am actually thinking f buying a Yamaha 2800if inverter to replace it!:

15yo Onan diesel generator
During the 30 seconds is it producing voltage? Fuel injected or carbonated I don't know the year it changed.

So you are no longer getting the codes, or you've moved to cure the codes and still get them?
Which codes?

Was one of the fixes to replace the fuel filter? Sounds like what mine did when the filter was clogged.
Makes no sense to me they need to take it out of the rig. I think I'd try another shop.

sounds like a stopped up filter .. 360 is nothing on that gen it should do 1,000's of hours ... is the fuel tank above 1/4 tank ?

It could be the filter,if that doesn't work check your fuel hose leading to it for cracks, they will let air in & cause this problem too.

Cummins in Orlando only wanted an hour of shop time ($150) to diagnose my QD 6000. And they didn't have to drop it to do the Diag (no, is isn't a slide out). $500 out of the gated doesn't sound right based on what you've said so far

Genny has not been used enough.
Doubt that you can remedy this type of abuse.
Get the Yamaha (but why....you do not use the generator!).

Our '97 had 15 hours on it when we got it 3-4 years ago. It runs perfectly. All we've done is regular maintenance.

Have a 2000 Fleetwood Discovery 37 V with a 7500 Onan Quiet Diesel. Had the same issue and the fuel line was cracked letting air in and doing the same thing. I replace the flex lines by the tank, ( Fuel and Return line ) and now it is running fine. Hope you find your problem..

Some shops won't look at it in the RV.

That is an strange statement.
Are you saying a 15 year old generator that runs for 30 second is junk, just because it has low hours?
Where is the abuse?
Millions of old diesel engine sit with low hours and still work.
I bought a 24 year old diesel with about 500 hours. I have since put 2000 hours on it.

I recently had my Onan generator taken out and serviced by a Cummins shop. It was in the high $600 range. Their labor rates are high. But my 10 year old genset with about 750 hours on it works fine now.
