2000 Discovery won't start after chassis battery replaced.

I'm posting for my dad, he's a few hours away. Jest has his 2000 Discovery on his property. He's getting it ready for her first trip. He went to get new chassis batteries and after replacing them, the engine won't crank. The dash lights come on when he puts the key in the first position he can hear the various fans and motors engaging but once he turns the key to start, noting happens. He mentioned something about the transformation light not coming on. Not exactly sure what he means by that. Sorry that I can't be more descriptive as this is second hand info and he's in an area with bad reception.

Probably transmission shift console lights.

If they don't come on, no start.

Have him look around the batteries for a small gauge wire laying loose. Many have a feed to the transmission computer right from the battery positive.

If no wire laying around, follow the small wire a foot or so. They often bury fuses in the cable bundle.

Last, he may have placed the wire on a negetive terminal. Need to figure out if he did.

Was there any problems before battery change out? If not most likely wired wrong.

Maybe this can help. It is from my ‘03 discovery or ‘07 bounder. They were both 38s on freightliners with cat7.

Sometimes you can text a pic when you can’t talk on phone. Good luck

No issues prior to the battery swap. He did confirm that the transmission keypad is not lit up.

As others pointed out seem no power to the transmission or a missed wire connection. That said do you have the battery drawing? Here is a copy of my 08 discovery battery cable connections. Use this as a GUIDE ONLY. See chassis batteries on left side of drawing. Good Luck keep us posted.

This was indeed the issue. I texted him the suggestions from the thread and he was able two see a small gauge wire this morning that he must have missed. Thank you all for your help.

Glad he was able to fix. Changing batteries is one of the most self inflected problems. If anyone does a change out take multiple picture and draw a diagram of every battery with marked wires on every terminal.

I had the same problem with my Providence, when I changed the starting batteries where a couple of wires I missed hooking up. When you turned the key on, the lights on the shifter came never on. So after a lot of checking found the wires, hooked them up to the positive posts, it started with out any problems
So my recommendation is to check the battery box and make sure all the wires are hooked up
Good Luck

I had to replace batteries on many, many motorhomes. It is easy to drop a wire. I finally came up with the idea of drawing a picture of the batteries. I put masking tape on each wire and marked plus and minus on each one. I then made a note of how many wires were on each post. After doing this I never had a single problem.
