2000 Eagle entry door
On our coach the entry door will not stay in the open position so I can use just the screen door. Before I tear into the door, does anyone know how big of a can of worms I’m about to open?
Using a bungee just ain’t right!! [emoji12][emoji12]
Thanks

Does it have the gas strut installed which is supposed to keep it open? If so it is most likely time for a replacement. They are cheap, easily replaced, and available from American Coach.

I don’t know if if it does or not, there is nothing visible on the outside of the door or in the door frame.

I think you might be missing the gas strut at the bottom of your door

Should be a replaceable gas opener/closer like this on lower right hand of door....if you got it, it can be replaced easy....

Mackwrench, my entry way & door look just like yours, with the exception of the gas spring. My door doesn’t have that. Must have something internal. Guess I’m going to have to take off the panels and see what’s there. Hopefully I can fix whatever I find broke. Or at the least use some Redneck engineering!! [emoji12]

Can you peek under it and see if there's anything that looks like a gas closer would have attached to?
Unless your bent on taking door apart, I'd be sure.
Perhaps call REV Fleetwood and ask....

Yes, I looked. Never had anything mounted on on the door anywhere. I’ll try to call REV tomorrow. But with their new policies, I hope I get an answer and not told to call a dealer.

We had a 99 & now have a 2001, neither one of our Americans had that at the bottom. All the different Americans we looked at to replace the '99 also didn't have that. Looks like an aftermarket installation.

Nope not aftermarket, mine was OEM with the gas opener/closer....... also when I replaced it a few years ago, I got it from Fleetwood.
It's not as obvious with the screen door open.

Hmmmm... Maybe our '99 was an "end" year '99 & they stopped installing them??? Both doors on both our Americans & all the Americans we looked at (2000-2003)didn't have that. Hope someone solves the mystery!

Just for giggles I looked at a few other 1999 on rvtrader and they had the gas closer... I'm not familiar with how a internal hinge closer would work, but OP oughta call American Coach before taking door apart....

My 2000 Eagle does NOT have that gas strut either.
My door was not staying open so I took the door apart.
I do not remember the actual mechanism inside but there is one that is supposed to hold the door open.
I could not repair mine as several parts inside seemed to be extremely worn out and very sloppy fit. I choose not to work any more on this and reassembled the door.
I now use the great bungee cord to the mirror fix. Very crappy unsophisticated fix, but it works.
thx Dale
