2000 Horn issue
Hi Gang I have a 2000 Discovery that Ive had about 2 years now.
Recently the air horn stopped working. Last week I started looking into it. When the key was on I could hear the horn relay clicking when I pushed the button....but darned if I could actually locate it. I heard it clicking from what sounds like the rear of the center area of the console, but with the DW having recent surgery and me having short arms, I could only lay on the floor and try to push the button while at the same time try to locate where the clicking was.
Yesterday I figured since I was hearing the relay click a few days back, it is most likely working so I checked the two wires coming off the little barrel compressor that feeds the air to the horn.
The ground wire where it attached to the firewall seemed a little crusty so I took it all apart, cleaned it up and reattached it.
Surely I thought that was going to be the issue......BUT.....NO GO.....and NOW, I don't even hear the relay clicking as it was last week.
Yes.....all batteries are turned on and charged up. Any idea where exactly that relay is so I can swap it out to see if that does it?

I may just go ahead and order one. There is a truck supply store close to me for 18 wheelers etc..... I'm wondering if they are not pretty much standard if I remove mine and take to them for comparison?

Might be a silly question, does your air system have air?

Yes sir it does.....and that is NOT a silly question..... I want to replace that solenoid as I feel that could be the issue and it is 20 years old. Tried to get a number off it today but the mylar label is pretty beat. Here is a pic of the unit. If anyone has one like it and the label is readable can you shoot me a pic?
My coach is a 2000 Discovery and the air horns are mounted on the frame of the coach under the front passenger seat area. My solenoid is located on the outside firewall right under the passenger side wiper and very close (and connected to) the air chuck of my coach. Thanks guys!

A quick search located many 12vdc air horn solenoids...
before buying one, have you aired up the coach, disconnect the tube to the horn have someone push horn button and check for air coming out of the solenoid?

Also, with someone pushing the horn button
- Grasp the solenoid do you hear or feel the solenoid clicking? It should with or without air.
- Disconnect the 2 wires to the solenoid and with your digital DC volt meter do you see 12 vdc from the coach? If not you need to troubleshoot the coach 12 vdc.

It Works!!
Thanks for everyone's help.
I decided to purchase a new solenoid from Hadley. The new one was laid out like the old one but was made out of metal instead of a plastic housing.
I installed it this afternoon. Works like a charm!! In fact.....the bleeding from my ears just started slowing down about an hour ago, and my double vision is gone!!
Thanks Again! Stay Safe!
