Alternators aren't designed specifically for motorhomes, so are likely to accommodate charging two sets of batteries. The standard motorhome design is to have a single alternator output daisy-chained to supply chassis 12v power, charge chassis battery, and to feed a relay that (when closed) goes to the house battery bank. The relay gets closed in one of two ways: (1) by the Aux/Emergency Start switch on the dash, and (2) by a wire from the ignition "ON" terminal, so that it closes when the alternator starts producing power. So it is normal for the house and chassis batteries to be in parallel whenever the engine running and alternator producing good voltage. Proper alternator output voltage is between 13.3 and 14.4, managed by the alternator 's voltage regulator circuit.
