2003 Fleetwood slide stopping half way in.

We have a 2003 Fleetwood discovery. Out drivers slide which is rather large starts to come in then stops. Most of the time we can keep hitting the in switch and it will come in 1/8 of inch until it finally reaches a point and then it will finally come in the rest of the way. Today it stopped and wouldn’t budge. Any thoughts?

First of all, welcome.

Telling us what kind of slide system helps others to give you help. Ours is power gear system, and a similar issue happened. Turned out to be alignment sensors. Shop replaced them, and re-aligned. Problem solved.

Do you have motor running and have you tried aux start switch at the same time trying to operate?

Have you verified nothing is blocking the slide? in my case the Dish TV box fell down and made a great jam to stop the slide. Never tried the AUX switch but engine needs to be running in fact some folks kick up the engine RPMs via cruise control a bit to deliver full voltage to the slides.

Browser, I had similar experience with my 2003 39s.
The rollers in this slide mechanism are nylon. They flatten out as the rig travels down the road. Eventually the load on the slide motor becomes excessive because the rollers no longer turn and the slide is now lower to the coach floor so more drag.
You can order new rollers from Power Gear or convert to steel sealed bearing rollers as I did. Also eliminate the connectors in the wiring to the slide motors by hard soldering to eliminate resistance under load. Having done both I have had no slide issues for the past 8 years.

If you are interested I may be able to find the bearing numbers used for the conversion. It was not that big a project. It took about three hours for slides on both sides.
Good luck
Bob

Update: We replaced the motor and put in new house batteries as the old ones were from 2015 and it is 50% better but still has the initial drag. We are in the process of selling the motorhome and were hoping to have this resolved before showing it. Getting very frustrated as we ate 1700.00 in with no fix.
