Once you fix it, cut a 3/4 inch piece of plywood, cover with carpet and place it on top of the dog house. We had the same issue and this $10 fixed has worked great for the last 2 years.
That's what I was thinking, don't think I could come up matching carpet so may varnish it. Even if I get him to fix it I will still go with the wood. It sux that Fleetwood made it like this, other than this I am very well satisfied with this motorhome. Getting in the seats and dealing with the windshield curtain you need to step on it and they made it too flimsy.
