2004 Revolution Check Engine

I have a Cummins 350 ISC that has been giving me a check engine light intermittently. It comes on for a minute and goes off for several minutes when idling in the drive. We are getting ready for a quick trip, a 3-hour drive, and I'm wondering how concerned I should be about it? I have tried holding the cruise Set button on my SmartWheel while turning the ignition to the on position (but not cranking) and that does not produce error-code flashes. There are no buttons under the dash/on the steering column (as far as I can see) to pull error codes. All my fluids are good, no water in the filters, air restriction gauge reads fine. Not sure what else to check. Do I need to delay our trip and detour by Cummins Atlantic to check the code?

I think your better off getting the code, finding out why the CEL is on.... Could be a number of issues, and without knowing the code it's guess work...

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? When I purchased my unit I was driving it back from S. Carolina to Texas. Started getting a check engine light in conjunction with a loss of power. Turned out to be a fuel filter restricting the fuel supply.

FWIW, we drove for four hours the other day and the CEL never came on. I think it was a false reading related to me degreasing and rinsing the engine compartment. Thanks for the feedback.
