2004 southwind Black water flush

Hi I’ve got a 2004 southwind 36e and a few questions about the proper cleaning of the black water tank. When I asked the previous owner about the brass handle above the tank flush inlet he responded “ don’t know never used it”. Looking at the online manual I did not see it mentioned. I know that they emptied the tank but there seems to be more than a little feces remaining. He said he used the flush every time but I’m wondering if that handle has to be rotated to port water to the tank. Also the tank while empty indicates full. Any thoughts on that? Thanks

On our 2010 Southwind there is no valve for the black tank flush, but that doesn't mean one is not found on other models. It ought to be somewhat obvious to determine if that valve goes with that inlet hose port by virtue of their proximity to each other. But an easy way to test the valve's function would be to hook up the water hose to the backflush connection, cut on the water, and listen (or feel the hose) to see if water is flowing. Then turn the valve to see if it makes a difference one way or the other.

That actually is my game plan, just don’t have access to a dump site right now. With temps down into the teens at night I don’t want to leave anything to chance with fluids in the tanks.

RV Black Tank Flush System is straight forward
Inlet connection, Anti-siphon Vacuum Breaker Check Valve, Spray Nozzle and piping

The only Valve is the Anti-siphon Vacuum Breaker Check Valve usually located inside a bathroom sink cabinet or behind a false panel

Is that 'brass handle' the Water Heater BYPASS ???

I may have found the answer to the brass handle directly above the San t flush. In reading about the fresh water hookup it looks like that handle may bypass the water system and divert water to the fresh water tank.am I correct?

On my '04 SW that brass valve is just that; diverts city water hook up to fill the fresh water tank. Note: when we did the walk around they said to open the fresh water fill cap to let the air escape faster than the bypass air in the filler neck.
