2005 fleetwood excursion heater

I have a 05 Excursion that when I try to turn on the heat pumps it also turns on the propane heater. Is this normal operation or am I missing something? I have the Thermostat set for electric. Thanks.

If it’s too cold for the heat pump it will automatically switch to the furnace
My 2007 Ellipse did that

Temps are in the low to mid 40s and there is heat coming out of the vents. This is the first time I have used the heat pumps.

Yes, if your temperature of the RV is more than 5f lower than your temp set point the furnace kicks in to get you to within 2f of your set point, then the heat pumps kick in.
Heat pumps don’t work very well below 45f.
I don’t use mine below 50f

That is exactly what happened. Now heat pumps have taken over and have kept us warm down into the 40s last night. Appreciate the info.
